I know how to get certain golden tools: catch all bugs (one of each type) to recieve a golden net, catch one of each type fish for a gold fishing rod, keep your town "perfect" for at least 16 days to recieve a golden watering can, shoot down 15 items with a slingshot to get a golden slingshot. you can get Mario or Luigi stuff by the Able Sisters on random days.
