Age old debate, subs are only hard if you are lazy and cannot read... it just takes practice. And for the record when there is dialogue typically there is very little animation occuring for tv and ova series due to cutting corners with the animation. Now for movies that actually using full animation yes there is typically more action going on, but rarely you are missing anything significant when you take the time to skim read the subs.

For me, if your watching it for the first time, you gotta go with subs...but for just casual viewing when your just sticking something on for the sake of it, then i dont mind dubs.

yes, Benji does have a point. I sometimes go on youtube and if I hit a subbed episode and go tabbing, I realise I don't know what's going on. But I prefer subs. I compared like Zatch Bell to Konjki no Gash Bell and there was a lot more violence and action than in the subbed than dubbed. Same thing with Naruto. I also much prefer Hikaru no Go and prince of tennis subbed better than dubs. Some shows are only subs and haven't made it to the U.S yet like Air and Da Capo.

It depends which anime and which voice actors. For Inuyasha, Medabots, Beyblade and DB/DBz, I didn't mind the dubs at all. I actually thought they were pretty decent. Naruto, One Piece, Mars, a lot of other stuff...the dubs were horrible. I don't mind reading subtitles while I watch anime because I'm a fast reader and I'm already used to reading subs.

im accostumed to dubz but since ive been watching death note the subz is growing on me. i hated it at first cuz i'll miss a sentence and have to go back but now it doesnt bother me

It depends entirely on the anime--- for example , i typically like subs better but in the case of Fullmetal alchemist i choose dub. But for the most part, subs are better.

I don't know anyone who prefers FMA subs than dubs.

Subs r so much better cause usually dubbed are american and r made fer children so thats means less blood less swearing and less of everything else thats makes a anime exciting!

Besides, they only dub what we consider to be "popular" and skip over a lot of really good animes. & like FMAandNaruto said, they always take out all the swearing & blood & a lot of other good stuff in the anime to make it "child appropriate" please... no, it just makes it retarded.

I like hearing the original version. The English dubs, in my opinion, usually sound stupid compared to the Japanese ones. I can read fast enough to still get a look at the animation, too. I don't like to just listen either. I usually stop everything and just watch, so having it dubbed is no help there.

I love watching the subs, because you get to hear the original voices of the characters. I love the dubs, because you can concentrate more on the animation and not just the subtitles.

I love watching subbed animes because that way, you hear the characters' voices as the producer originally intended them to sound. With Western voice actors, the personality and feel of the characters' voices can be extremely distorted.

I think Subs are lazy. "oh i know we'll just type the script into the episode". Dubz at least put in the effort to make you feel like you can be dragged into the story, i mean how can i relate to character who speaks so fast that i cant read what theyre saying.

dubs suck, especially coz in america they censor everything, which sucks. like for example in cardcaptors Tomoyo Daidouji had gay feelings for sakura, but that got completely cut out.

Some dubs are hurrendous because they have poor voice actors as the animes are far more popular in Japan hence better voice actors. I watched a dubbed episode once and it made me cringe a little. To be fair though I can understand why people would choose to watch dubs, more than once I've went on other tabs while watching an episode then realised "crap, I actually can't understand this language" lol.

Also, it was mentioned before but they cencor buts! Like the swearing, that's what makes you content in knowing you're not just watching a cartoon =P

But I'd definately watch dubs if they got better voice actors.

I like sub better... Dub is like threes talking. Some of them. They just doesn't know how to act in anime. Naruto and Hellsing is best dub I've seen on english.

Everyone who picked subs are treating Dubs like the the Sugarfueled10yearolamericankid. while its true that Dubs that air in america are heavily edited and censored, there are uncut editions (sorry 4kids they do exist and you should make them) that come out on DVD, they leave in all the dialogue but just say it in english, which is fine, thats what i want. Oh and as far as bad voice acting goes, how do YOU know (unless you speak japanese) that the original voice actors were any good to begin with. There are a lot of american cartoons with bad voice acting , so theres no reason to say that its different somwhere else. I mean, Just listen to Gokus Original Japanese voice. THat was horribly nasal. he sounded like a japanese lois from family guy.

DUBs end up making the characters sound squeaky and...WEIRD D: only a few anime actually have relatively good dubs...like FMA.

You Know, i can't watch Subs Because Of My Dyslexia and I find it extremely hard to read the titles that come on screen. So I Love Dubs, They help me alot and if there weren't any dubs I wouldn't be able to really watch anime. Sure I'll have to watch subs if there is no Dub (E.g. Junjou romantica and so on) but when I do I have to pause the screen so I can actually read what there doing and half the time I don't know what there doing. so I'm truly grateful for dub. Sure all respect to the Original one I don't think the Dubs are trying to rip off the subs, I think there showing there respect to the anime and trying to get more people to watch it because I know a Lot of people who wont watch a anime if it's not dub. And Yeah Some Dubs are truly awful, The worst dub i've ever see is gravitation, But I think that was just the voices never suited them, they were great voice actors though

For me, it doesn't matter. Personally, I could just read the subs and not even have a problem with it. I also thing that the japanese audios for anime sound as if there is more feeling instead of the dubbed audio. However, it still doesn't really matter to me if I'm watching Bleach, FMA, Blood Plus, Inuyasha, Pokemon, etc on tv and it's english.

It depends on the show, some shows have terrible dubs and some have fairly good dubs, I usually only watch subs, but it really depends on how good the dubs are. Some shows I'll watch dubbed are FMA and Ouran Host Club, but other things like Naruto I won't watch dubbed because they sound terrible ^^

i speak japanese watching the subs helps me with my japanese( i leanrn new words every day it really helps me and gives me an excuse to watch anime

Both are great =D. In some cases I prefer subs because some of the dub voice acting is horrible such as The 3rd season of Sailor Moon (particularly Serena's voice. It made my ears bleed.). Also, I like to be able to see some of the things that the dubs don't allow you to see. But I would also like to be able to understand what they're saying so in that case I would choose dubs.

I don't like the cheesiness of the dubs, it drives me insane, most of the time it pputs across the wrong meaning or sounds different to what i think a character shud sound like. I wud like to say i use dubs wn i'm like cleaning my room and stuff, but i usually end up giving up on my room and concentratin on the anime, so i ussually put it back into subs!!! And besides it's more authentic and the meaning is how it's ment to be, not how it's translated. But I don't judge dub lovers, i do c the attraction, just its not 4 me, everyone has their own preferences.

I agree with Storystuff. Dubs can sound very... artificial. If you've watched Lucky Star dubbed, you'd know. Of course, I grew up listening to dubbed anime on television but I still don't like to listen to it. Original is always best.

If the anime has never been released in America, the United Kingdom or any other country that speakes english, then I watch it with subs. If it's been dubbed (Ultimate Muscle,) then I watch the dub :)

I like the dubs coz it means my eyes don't hurt after watching loads of eps, and plus if your distracted or have to do something you don't miss anything!

If the dub is really good, then I prefer dub because I prefer not having to read subtitles. Otherwise subs no doubt, nothing worse than having your anime ruined by bad dubbing.

Also, I live in latinamerica, from what I've heard, in here good dubbing is more likely than in the US.
