Funny thing is, as a non-supporter, I can argue that it’s actually the other way around.
Consider season 2’s finale. That ending scene for Lucas and Brooke is a powerful revelation in Lucas part (and he doesn’t need anybody to bombard him about what his হৃদয় wants)
Lucas: I wanna be with you, Brooke.
Brooke: What?
Lucas: I know we’re বন্ধু but it’s just how I feel.
Brooke: But what about the Peyton stuff?
Lucas: I keep that stuff to remind myself how badly I screwed up things...with you; to remind myself that if I ever get a সেকেন্ড chance, I’ll never let আপনি go again.

ব্রুকাস্ non-supporters could dismiss this as nothing আরো than Lucas ‘throwing himself in another wrong relationship.’ It wouldn’t matter how we BL supporters would enlighten them as much as it wouldn’t matter if they try to illuminate us with their soul-mates concept of Leyton. Strictly speaking, this guide is, after all, for the Leyton non-supporter so we shall not get sidetracked and continue with this সেকেন্ড case. However one may side on this one, it remains irrefutable that Lucas did choose Brooke here without anybody telling him to do it. He claimed that, even though he barely knew last year, he couldn’t imagine now how life would be without her. In s1, there was admittedly a certain doubt and superficiality while they were dating, largely due to the fact that Lucas still holds a candle for the tragic Peyton Sawyer. But throughout season 2 we could see Lucas getting to know both girls. As much as he had called up Jake to take care of Peyton (and he didn’t even do it himself and here we ask “why not? Why the hell not if he’s not into her? Why not take advantage of that misery she was in if he likes ‘being that guy for her’?”), he was gravitating towards Brooke’s world, চার্মড্ দ্বারা her independence and wit. He chose to be with Brooke because he doesn’t want her to slip away; because he felt that somehow what he did in the past was his biggest regret because he had let go of this amazing person he could have a real future with. It was an impeccable timing, however, when he confessed because Brooke was leaving but it was an effective cliffhanger for the two in the পরবর্তি season. And astoundingly so, their feelings flourished but with past’s baggage to overcome.
Going back to the theory earlier, I will stress it:
Lucas is not hiding from Peyton through Brooke; but rather
Lucas is hiding from Brooke through Peyton
Take another closer look on what he said:

What was that screw-up? Ah yes, here it is: Brooke told Lucas in s1: “I wanna know everything about you. And I want আপনি to know almost everything about me.” This shows willingness to commit (when Peyton herself wanted sex from Lucas at that time, here is a girl who could give Lucas what he wanted). And if আপনি look at Lucas’ face after what she told him, আপনি can see some hesitation there. We don’t think it’s because he’s secretly wondering if she’s the ‘wrong girl’ but rather he’s worried that this is getting too real which would entail him to open up emotionally and that scares Luke! As much as someone wants to be in a relationship, isn’t it true that all of us are holding back because we are afraid of the commitment it presents? In the same manner true to us all, Lucas doesn’t have the initiative to pursue a real relationship. So what does Luke end up doing when things are getting too fast and overwhelming with Brooke? Oh, that’s right: he makes out with P. Sawyer. He says to her “I’ve been hiding around Brooke. I have to be with you” but in reality, he is hiding with Peyton. He is playing নিরাপদ with Peyton because he HAS TO be with her when he really is just scared to take a risk with Brooke who was offering herself to him (something Peyton only later did because the excitement of ‘sneaking around,’ no matter how she denies it, appeals to her. But when she realized she would be hurting Brooke if she finds out, she runs before it gets messier).
It takes two to tango; same goes for relationships; it takes two to sabotage অথবা improve it. In this case, Peyton is no victim অথবা অ্যাঞ্জেল either. As if she didn’t know better (and maybe this is the lesson she should have learned to avoid what happened in s3 later on), she enters a compromising affair with Lucas. She jumps into his arms without evaluating the situation she’s getting into. প্রণয় is not logical, true, but it is not stupid either as many oh-so-cheesy people would use an excuse for their own stupid moments. Love, as an emotion, is rarely deceptive. প্রণয় does not come with lies and fear because those things would give it an ‘edge’. প্রণয় is supposed to extinguish all of these: the ‘pain’ and ‘garbage’ that is wrongly perceived as ‘poetic’ and ‘healing.’ This is one of the reasons why us non-supporters never will appreciate Leyton because they’re not ‘cryptic’ and ‘controversial’ to us; they’re just plain dishonest.

Lucas did not keep that Peyton stuff to reminisce on what they could have had. We non-supporters think it was a misleading factor that would suggest he still harbored feelings of romance for Peyton. The truth is he has no time to contemplate that throughout season 2. He was dating Anna and then he was getting to know Brooke and developed feelings for her; feelings he could have dealt with the earlier season if only he wasn’t too afraid to do so. In season 2, he wanted to be with Brooke because that’s just how he feels. Nobody told him to go to her unlike when it comes to Peyton. Nobody had to make him realize he wrote another novel about his eternal devotion to her (just like with Peyton). Nobody had to because the ‘heart has reasons that reason does not know.’ And his হৃদয় chose Brooke.
So fret no more, ব্রুকাস্ supporters. Yes, indeed, it was Brooke who was cheated on and Peyton is the one he cheated with but we wouldn’t want it in any other way because it strengthens the fact that Lucas is simply scared of things getting too real with Brooke Davis that in his lapse of judgment, he chose to go astray with Peyton. Leyton supporters would claim the reason why Lucas and Peyton keep pulling away from each other is because their প্রণয় is that strong that they have to repel. I think Lucas and Brooke’s version of this is better and ten times আরো genuine. Lucas couldn’t be with Brooke because he still has urges for Peyton. But once that was out of the way, he realized that it was with Brooke that he could have everything. On Brooke’s side, she was terrified because he broke her হৃদয় once but she strived to give him the benefit of the doubt and আপনি can see how they forgave each other for mistakes in the past so they could সরানো অগ্রবর্তী into a brighter possibility.
We non-supporters arrived to the conclusion that getting together in expense of another person’s feelings is nothing to be proud of and that’s what Lucas and Peyton did in s1. We are raised to the notion that what Romeo and Juliet is eternal love. If anything, they just want to rebel from their boisterous parents অথবা are simply struck দ্বারা prepubescent hornies. It’s not love. Lucas and Peyton seemed to have relived this notion and we non-supporters do not buy it.
