\'Castle\' Season 7 fall finale: Castle and Beckett break up -- professionally

Who knew it would be a killer in a Santa Claus suit that would shake up Castle and Beckett\'s world way more than a botched wedding ceremony would?

When a bad Santa runs over a mob doctor all bets are off. Castle happens to know the man who set the kill in motion, mobster Dino Scarpello, so he and Beckett track the guy down. In typical crime boss fashion the two find him at a strip club. Suddenly Christmas looks a little bit naughtier as these strippers are all dressed in scandalous holiday outfits. Dino won\'t admit right away to having anything to do with the victim Dr. Rick Mercer, but soon requests Castle meet him for a private date. When the two meet and Dino spills what he knows about the crime at hand, Castle doesn\'t know it then but he has sealed his fate. 

The crime plays out in typical fashion and Castle struggles to keep his mob ties hidden. The investigation leads them to a modern day Romeo and Juliet situation involving a man named Luca Tessaro and Dino\'s daughter Judy. Everything ends up working out as far as the case goes, but the same can\'t be said for Castle\'s future. 

Gates ultimately finds out about Castle\'s mob ties and has no choice but to let him go from the NYPD. What does this mean for Beckett and Castle? By the looks of things when the show returns in January, Castle is embracing a new profession -- a private investigator. The novelist\'s version of this appears to be like a modern day Sherlock Holmes. This in turn means the love birds will be in competition for cases for the first time ever. Things are bound to get interesting when the show returns.
