Ugh, by far. I can't decide whether I'm neutral towards or dislike Merida, and I adore Anastasia.

Kinda dislike vs. despise

Love her. Anya is just a rude bitch.

@scarletunicorn: No ruder than Meri"bitch", who rolled her eyes at the suitors without even giving them a moment's notice and ASSAULTED her own mother. Who was Anya rude to, other than Dimitri?

^ Plus the fact that Merida just throws food she's eaten on the ground and knocks things over for the servants to pick up and runs through them without saying sorry or excuse me, even when she nearly kills them when she was riding on Angus and nearly ran them over.

At least the movie correctly frames Merida as wrong for what she does, though; she grows and changes. But you're always supposed to be on Anya's side.

^ No offense, but how is that when they're forcing us to feel bad for her with making the suitors be incompetent losers! Shouldn't they be just as smart, competent, skilled, and attractive as her and also be nice guys, but she's just not ready instead of making them look bad in order for us to feel bad for her. Plus everything in the end just works in her favor and she doesn't have to give up anything. Elinor gives up the traditional ways (which the Lords give into really easily) and is the one who becomes a completely different person with different beliefs (Merida's beliefs). Besides, just because she is supposedly shown in the wrong, doesn't make what she did better than when Anastasia is being rude to Dimitri, who really deserved everything she did to him. He was a jerk to her, so of course she's not going to be polite to him.

Speaking as someone who isn't fan of either character, I have to say that while Anya does have her b*tchy moments, they're no where near as mean spirited as Merida's.

You guys can bitch (Haha) about how terrible you think Merida is at the beginning of the movie all you'd like, but UN is right. Merida has to grow as a person through her movie where as Anya is glorified for being such a strong-independent-woman. I don't dislike Anastasia or anything, but ScarletUnicorn calling Anya rude is a legit complaint because her behavior is never brought up.
A lot of the comments about how supposedly bitchy Merida is are pretty stupid as well. Merida isn't rude to her suitors just for rolling her eyes at them. It's not like she has anything against them as people or is too picky about a guy, she just doesn't want to get married. And Merida assaulting her mom is something she apologizes for, so beating that over the head is fucking tiring.

@Kataralover Lol, seriously? The suitors are just as nice as Merida, and one of them is specifically complemented for being attractive. Their lack of skilled is played for laughs. Never once does Merida break out into puppy dog eyes and tears because of how terrible her suitors are so that we feel bad for her.
Also, Merida does have to give into different beliefs. She spends the first 2/3s of the movie taking no blame and eventually has to admit after all that how she fucked up.

Fanpop won't let me vote for some reason, but if I did it'd be a close call leaning towards Merida.
