I'm an atheist, but I love Christmas more than anyone else I know.

It wasn't originally Christian anyway, it was Yule Tide...

That's my excuse, I just adore Christmas! It's not really as religious as it used to be, it's more of a cultural phenomenon that just captures everyone.

I celebrate Christmas as a tradition and part of that tradition is going to Christmas Eve service, but otherwise my family & I are not religious.

I do a bit of both actually, I guess. We read the bible and pray before opening presents on Christmas morning. But since I live in North Pole, land of Santa Claus, we have a bit of the cultural aspect of Christmas too!

My family is really religious, but I think It turned more cultural with all of our traditions, and getting together.. but we made a tradition of going to church and singing in the choir... so maybe the religious aspect is cultural, and the cultural aspect is religious...

not by a long shot, MajorDork/R_U_LOST/Ravenclaw, and after 2000 years the Christian diatribe is getting rather tiresome. if you would like some information on the real roots of Christmas, check out this link: link

Religious, turned culteral, GOING BACK to religious. I don't care if the month is wrong, name is wrong it's the point to celebrate Christ and God's gift.
Merry Christmas all!

Well, blisslikethis, yes, it was originally Yule around this time of year. But CHRISTmas was created and just choosen to be in late December because people were already celebrating then. Christmas could be in the middle of June, if that's when it was chosen to be celebrated. Yes, 'Yule' would still be in December without Jesus, but Christmas would not be. They are different. Santa, Christmas trees, etc. were created in Europe by Christians.

Well, Happy Yuletide to you!

the main reason is religious however we always have some cultural issues on christmas celebrations, that is why people, all around the world, celebrate Christmas on different ways even when they share the same religion.

Jesus is the one who put the "Christ" in Christmas. Without Him, we wouldn't be talking about how we celebrate Christmas right now. Shoot, there wouldn't be a Christmas AT ALL if He wasn't born. And I don't care if you still believe in Santa Claus. I'm stickin' with what I know about what Christmas really is.

well, we don't go to church or watch the christmas service, but isn't spending time with loved ones and celebrating kindness and generosity based on chritian views? we are more cultural, though. i don't come from a religious background.

Spending time with loved one and celebrating kindness a Christian view?! Hardly. It's a HUMAN view, whether it be Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, or Christian.

I don't have a problem with Religion, but I'm not a religious nut. It turns out that Christmas was a holiday that was originally Pagan. It was similar to Mardi Gras. Jesus was born in the summer. Think about it. Would shepherds be standing outside on a "cold winter's night?" I don't think so.

Because it is one. Non-Christians bastardizing it into a commercial holiday doesn't change that fact. And no, it was not originally pagan lol. That's a tired, many times debunked myth. It’s about a Roman catholic feast that was set to be nine months before. If anything pagans probably took the date from Christians.

Splash- that's very unfortunate! I'm sorry.
