Hey! I felt like doing this to gather my thoughts about Nagito a lot better. Personally, I feel I am better at fitting into his shoes and predicting and seeing what and how he would think / react to a situation than I am actually analyzing অথবা figuring out his character in worlds, but lets see how this goes. (Disclaimer: I am doing this as I go with little planning)
When I analyze characters, I like to look and think of the “pillars” of their characters, অথবা basically the main character details, events, experiences, behaviors, and so on about them that become highly defined and significant pieces that essentially spread out to become the foundation for most of the smaller মিনিট pieces. For Nagito, off the শীর্ষ of my mind, his pillars that I currently see are his মতামত on hope, despair, and good luck, his past experiences / growing up conditions, and his actions that make Nagito the very controversial character that he is.
Lets talk further into these pillars. Firstly, we have the view of hope, despair, and good luck. From the free time events, অথবা heck, even the entire damn game, we can see that Nagito has a humongous প্রণয় for hope, one of which that can easily be called an obsession with how much he talks about it, fixates on it, and how much of his decisions and perceptions are based on this view of hope. To him, it appears as if Hope is the best thing in the world and possibly the only point of life as he wishes to see the “Ultimate Hope” before he dies. On the other hand, Nagito’s view towards despair seems to be আরো complex in nature. As someone who adores and loves hope, Nagito naturally does not like despair as seen in the few times he mentions an event being “full of despair” and how upset he gets over it for a very short period of time. End all right? Thats all there is to talk about his perception towards despair correct? Incorrect. When viewing Nagito’s character, while it is not directly stated, it can be clear that his perception towards despair is not entirely hate. On the same coin, Nagito has been known to create “despairful” events such as killings অথবা taking a fondness to being put on the island because of despair’s correlation to hope and how he believes the two function with one another. Taking away from Nagito’s আরো extreme logic, similarly to how there is no light without darkness, despair and hope work together as too opposites, without despair, there is no hope and vice versa. From Nagito’s experiences, which I will talk আরো about later, he has perceived that statement much আরো than anyone could ever imagine as ever despair-filled event that he had ever occurred ended up with something even better to come out of it, most likely due to his infinity towards luck which will also be discussed more. Because of this, while Nagito hates despair as an alone standing agent and, দ্বারা no means, would he adore to have a world of despair অথবা causing despair for the sake of despair, Nagito also adores the usage of despair and despair-filled events as they are great to cause hope. This creates the basis of the understanding of his ideology of despair always bringing around a better hope.
As mentioned earlier, Nagito also has his perceptions on the concept of “Good Luck” and how it is an “Absolute Power” in his eyes and it is this good luck that tended to create the cycle and tendency that Nagito tended to see where he would get a really bad situation “made up for” (for lack of better words) with a even greater ending. With this, Nagito has come to have almost if not entire faith in his luck and that it would come to work out in the end for him. This can be seen in moments like the Teruteru case where his plan was dependent on it, the funhouse’s roulette where he claimed that if he couldnt survive a one in six survival rate then his ultimate ability didnt have much meaning to it, and later in the end with how he relied on his good luck to target the traitor to make them the unlucky, accidental killer. For him, good luck has undoubtedly found his way into his life at every moment and thus he find that he can have full faith that good luck will stay দ্বারা his side through thick and thin. However, looking deeper into the events he explained, every “Good luck” event that he found himself mentioning as a piece of evidence to his faith in it also followed after a strictly “Bad luck” that could not just me written off as normal bad luck. Personally, I would like to go out to the extent to say that Nagito genuinely fits the শিরোনাম of “Ultimate Lucky Student” আরো than anyone else thus far (Celeste, Naegi) since he has a tendency to get Good Luck much আরো abnormally than the average person, but also because Nagito has a strong affinity for an abnormal amount of luck সামগ্রিক - both good and bad. However it is because of his optimistic view points, and a few other things Ill explain futher, that he fixates and ignores his “Ultimate Bad Luck” portion of his abnormal experiences with luck, but rather takes and believes in only the “Good Luck” that comes to him.
Another detail to note is that Nagito admits to not being able to control the good luck despite it being an “Absolute Power” which could really add to figuring out his character later on in this analysis.
Also through the Free Time events, we get to see into one of the other “pillars” I talked about. Nagito’s growing up conditions and his experiences throughout his life that he mentioned. Some of the ones he mentions was when he was in elementary school, the plane he was in with his parents was hijacked, but luckily a meteorite struck down the plane and killed the hijacker, but unluckily killed his parents as well, but luckily gave him his freedom and inheritance. Another one is that when he was in middle school he was kidnapped দ্বারা a murderer, but when he was stuffed in a bag, he found himself a winning lottery ticket that got him 300 million dollars. Hajime, in response to hearing this, says it explains his blind faith towards hope, but it has a lot আরো to it. Along with that, it further supports that Nagito has experienced EXTREME bad luck as well as good luck as mentioned before, but even আরো affects how Nagito sees and functions due to these traumatic events that he brushes off like having his ক্যান্ডি চকোলেট stolen.
Sure, Nagito is quick to brush these events off like they were nothing, but we have to take note of a few things. Firstly, we can not assume these are the only two events that occured. He lead into a third before deciding not to talk about it as to not “burden” Hajime with his “hopeless situation”. With this, we can infer there was likely at least one আরো worse than the prior two mentioned, and could possibly assume that there were likely আরো around the same severity of those two. Secondly, we can not forget that with the first story, it shows that Nagito was raised as an orphan WITHOUT parents since his ELEMENTARY school ages. And thirdly, we can not forget the age that these all occurred at. While Nagito ignores the fact that it happened in elementary and middle school, and while it is easy for us to brush it off as that being alright since Nagito is clearly unaffected দ্বারা tragedy, we can not forget that he was a child at the time and that it is highly unlikely that he was always as warped of a character as he is now. Especially since a child at the age he was at is not geared to properly handle অথবা figure out how to properly cope, handle, and process such severely traumatic events.
So what am I getting from this? Well here is where my research on how children and people respond to trauma in their life comes in handy. In সামগ্রিক regular people who have experienced trauma, there are a few responses that tend to come, immense fear of the world and that ব্যক্ত events would occur, depression, isolation, and, a symptom most common in those that experienced it at a young age, dissociation / denial. None of this really fits with the Nagito we know correct? The Nagito we know doesnt care for the tragedy and death and seems to have full faith that the world will work in his favor. Sure, but I think thats looking at in on a skin deep level. As mentioned above, we can not forget that Nagito was handling all this alone since his parents died. When he was kidnapped, his parents werent looking for him since they were dead. He was alone. We can infer দ্বারা the fact he had no siblings অথবা বন্ধু per his description, that he did not have anyone else to support him either. Essentially, from elementary school and on wards, he was a completely, isolated, unsupported, lonely, and neglected child having only himself to be with to work through his experiences. With this, we already stated one of the symptoms of trauma - isolation. So where do the others hide? Simply behind his coping mechanisms he puts অগ্রবর্তী to convince himself that ব্যক্ত events did not bother him. Rather than actually accepting, stating, and feeling what he been through as something that was hurtful অথবা painful, he learned to write it off as nothing bad but rather something good. How so? Simply he fixated and focused on the good side of things. He fixated on the money he won and the inheritance he got (monetary, shallow, and materialistic traits) and used it to overwrite the emotional pain, fear, and suffering that came with the experiences he had. Essentially, this is a key point for people that have been through repetitive trauma at a young age where, in order to handle the emotions and experiences they can not explain properly অথবা handle properly at their age, neglect and deny how bad it actually was, sometimes to the point of forgetting, as their brain subconsciously chooses to only let them fixate on the positives and everything good that happened in order to keep them functioning. With this, we can really see why Nagito seems to completely ignore if not be unaware of the sheer amount of Bad Luck he has as well as Good Luck and manages to keep optimistic and positive with it all. And that is, dissociation. Along with this, we can see the traits of depression within his self degrading behavior that causes him to call himself trash and feel that he can not and does not feel worthy to explain অথবা share his issues with others and with how open he is to killing himself অথবা being killed as well as the statement that all he wanted was someone / somebody’s love.
So what happened to the fear of the world অথবা that the event will repeat? Thats a huge factor of those who were seriously affected দ্বারা trauma right? Where is that in Nagito? Well, I was originally going to dive into it myself with what I know, but I would like to state something the video DisneyPrince পোষ্ট হয়েছে on my club about Nagito’s analysis that we can see Nagito, due to his lethal diagnosises that he picked up obsessive-compulsive behaviors as a symptom and sideaffect of the deadly disorders he ended up having that began to destroy his brain. I suggest আপনি link
since I feel she talks about it and researched আরো into the specific diagnosises and thus can explain it better than me. However I do agree with what she says about the OCD-like tendencies, but have to add onto it that it too is another tendency that some people with severe trauma to the point of PTSD tend to have, they call it PTSD with OCD traits. It is essentially that people who have experienced traumatic events, in order to cope with the fear they are প্রদত্ত from it, resort to compulsively trying to control what they are obsessively afraid of happening. Essentially, while we do not see Nagito running around afraid of the পরবর্তি occurance of bad luck that occurs, we see Nagito attempting to control the entire situation and ultimately manipulate the bad luck before it occurs on its own accord.
What else supports that? Well earlier we mentioned how Nagito knows that his good luck is not something he can control despite it being an absolute power. That statement alone was thrown out there in a manner that was never really elaborated on, but I think we can assume that it means that his Good Luck will come regardless of if he wants it অথবা not. And since we know the relationship between his good luck and bad luck, it also means his Bad Luck will come regardless of if he wants it অথবা not to produce the good luck. However he states SPECIFICALLY he can not control the GOOD LUCK, but in turn, it almost appears as if he believes he can control the bad luck that summons it. This is exactly why he tries to control, manipulate, and cause the bad luck himself, because as long as he is controlling the bad luck, he feels he can control it and prevent a worse bad luck from happening, something similar and to the much worse degree like the two events he specifically talks about. And we know such despair filled events do happen and that he does believe there is a such thing as a despair too much that he does not see it properly creating hope. This can be seen where he notices that he and everyone else are Remnants of Despair where, instead of letting such a despair-filled event from occuring to create the hope most of us could see him expecting, he decides to try to ruin it and stop the despair দ্বারা killing everyone since something so full of despair, probably could not have possibly made the ultimate hope he was looking to be অথবা wanting to see. So rather than letting his Bad Luck decide what occurs, he instead tries to feed it with bad situations instead as a way to find a way to control the negativity in his life that is controlled দ্বারা a cycle of extreme bad luck and good luck.
So that was a lot of talk on mental health and trauma huh? So a quick summary. Nagito has experienced a lot of trauma that affected him a lot আরো than he lets people know and probably আরো than he lets himself know. This ultimately caused for him to be excessively optimistic about situations and caused him to be obsessed with controlling the bad luck that occurs and the lack of support, friends, and family he had when he grew up essentially led to extreme isolation, depression, and, while it wasnt explained above, likely social awkwardness and failure to properly respond how most would see “normal” people responding. To add to this, Nagito likely fails with properly handling empathy and reacting normally to tragic events because, at this point in Nagito’s life, these events are no longer really tragic to him and compared to what he had been through, seem to almost be part of his normal chaotic life. With this, he genuinely might be unaware of how severely abnormal and empathetically messed up his is. And along with this, his isolation, lack of support, and lack of close people, can explain why he got so clingy and affectionate towards Hajime to the point of doing a borderline প্রণয় confession in the last one as it is likely Hajime is the only person that bothered to grow close with him and actually get to know him. Despite this, due to his short life expectancy, Nagito remains to stay distant.
So with this, lets take a look at his big action towards the end where Nagito stops অভিনয় like the Nagito we have all known for hte past three অথবা so chapters. In this, Nagito gets the academy book that hold a lot of the secrets on himself and the fellow classmates, addressing how all of them, every last one of them were really Remnants of Despair. With this, Nagito quickly came to the harsh reality that the people he so desperately admired and would be willing to die for, and the game that he loved so much since he thought it would bring the true hope, were really nothing but a machine and game to make those who were already full of despair even আরো full of despair and those “beacons of hope” were really, the despised “beacons of despair.” It is because of this that Nagito quickly became bored, annoyed, and agitated with everyone there to the point he began অভিনয় like, how I like to put it, “Togami” as he became rude and bossy. At this point, everything he had hoped for, worked for, and found enjoyment in was shown to be exactly the opposite and everything here suddenly হারিয়ে গেছে all the fun and interest. From that point on, he worked towards destroying the Remnants of Despair and pushing for the only person who wasnt one to survive - the only hope in the group, the traitor. So from the very moment he went into the অষ্টভুজ and took the poison, he began working towards his own death and the traitor’s success leading all the way to his death. A short while before, he could even be seen having accepted this as fact as he started to state hed make sure everything ended well with hope in the end, even if it costed his life. We later find out that Nagito ended up setting up a very torturous death which I would like to think he did so because he became exactly what he hated and realized this was game was nothing but pure despair. Along with trying to make it serve as a red herring that someone killed him, it was served as a self punishment. We also see in the end, with the final video message, that he asks to be remembered as “The Ultimate Hope” which I feel is both a way of him trying to atone for his sin of being a Remnant of Despair, a statement that despite seeing the desperately despair filled situation he still believes that what he did could help bring forth hope, and perhaps even just a plead to be admired, remembered, and liked since he never really had someone to serve that throughout his life. I feel that final request was to be cared for and liked in death, when no one really cared for him অথবা liked him in life.
Personally there is probably আরো I can delve into but at this point my mind is confused with a lot and I think I explained a lot of my own analysis and did a lot better than I thought I would with little to no planning about this whatsoever so if I think of naything আরো Ill probably add it in the comments. Additional notes:
Since I was পাঠ করা through the personality portion of Nagito’s wiki for the last portion about his personality oddities, here are a few other details I could use to support certain statements.
~ I realized this while walking to Lunch, but it is highly likely Nagito, as a Remnant of Despair, took Junkos hand as his own in hopes that he could obtain the sheer control of despair that she had. Because দ্বারা controlling the despair in his life and those around him, he could likely feel like he could obtain control of the cycle of bad luck, good luck that has polluted, corrupted, and taken over his life and hurt those that he grew close with. The সেকেন্ড thing from this is আরো of a theory that may অথবা may not be validated আরো when I go through the games and anime, but I would not be shocked if the reason he became a Remnant of Despair and became corrupted দ্বারা Junko was because she likely played on his desire for hope, manipulating him to do worse and worse actions until it got to the point where his line for what would and would not create the hope he wants becomes blurred and almost nonexistant. দ্বারা doing so, he holds onto his true প্রণয় and desire for hope, while falling and creating extreme despair as a Remanant of Despair. It is also likely that Junko could have easily manipulated his need for affection, love, and someone to genuinely know him in a similar way to how she manipulated Mikan who just wanted forgiveness.
~ I kind of grazed upon it, but due to the uncontrollable cycle of his bad luck good luck cycle, he likely feels helpless to work against it and likely blames himself and thus luck cycle he is haunted with for the reason his parents died and all the events happened. This would easily lead to adding onto his “I am trash” “I am a bother” “I am a burden” belief system. Apparently in the Island Mode events he states he doesnt want his luck to harm Hajime which also adds to this and why he isolates himself from others.
~ He apparently has stated that he feels fear every দিন of his life. This adds to the idea that he fears his cycle with luck and thus helps support his obsession with controlling it as much as he can.
~ I would also like to say that Nagito is neither good nor bad. He is neither simply just an insane nutjob অথবা an innocent cinnamon roll. This was not to defend অথবা support either sides but rather to discuss why Nagito is the way he is and why he acts the way he does. Also, sorry if it was scattered XD Again there was no planning for this and I was just going with how my brain jumped from one to the next. I likely missed stuff and all.
