It's not "wrong", not everyone can find someone they like in arms reach. There are a lot of sites, if that's what you're looking for that are secure, people you may talk to, you learn who you can trust like you've known them your whole life and those you can't.

Don't see why this is an issue. If the person really cared about you at all, then you could just say that there's really no options for you and you could figure out somewhere else to go. If the person actually had a problem with this, then I'd say that's not the kind of person you want to date.
