But you also need to take into consideration the fact that Light, had the Shimigami, and the notebook on his side. Think of It this way. If L was the one with the Shimigami on his side, and Light was the one trying to catch L, who would win then? My personal opinion is that L would have won. One of the most important thing's that I found, was that L was always fairly calm, and always focused. He never lost his cool, even when he knew he was going to die. Light, on the other hand, went mad with power. L even managed to provoke Light into killing someone, which gave L the location of the city in which Light was living in. Which Is a fine example of how Lights quick temper clouds his judgement. Anouther thing that made me lean towards L, over Light. Is the fact that there was only so much L could do within the laws. As you see in the Episode, when he really has no choice but to let Light go. Even after he lets him go, he still manages to come to the right conclusion, of the fact that Light was planning on getting his memories, and his powers back, and then taking L's spot. And one last thing (lol) he has Misa on his side. Thus having two Shimigami, and two notebooks. Giving him a much needed advantage against L.
