Hello everyone! I'm Veronica (a.k.a. ApplesauceDoctr :D), and hey, it's been a little while since I've written an article. It feels good to get back into the spirit of writing. :D
So, what have I today? As আপনি can see, I'll be analyzing the song "Reflection" from Disney's Mulan. I made a lyric video for it about a week পূর্বে and realized just how deep the song is! However, in this analysis, I'll also be taking a look at the extended version of the song. It shows a different side of মুলান that...well, you'll see soon enough.

Alright then! Let's take a listen to Reflection!

Movie Version

Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect bride
অথবা a perfect daughter
Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?

From this, we can see that মুলান knows that she can't be what society expects her to be - that perfect চীনামাটির বাসন doll. It's just not going to happen, and as a result, she প্রশ্ন herself. If she's not that perfect bride অথবা daughter, then what is she? Who is she supposed to be?

Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my family's heart

This excerpt here makes me think of Elsa. And Hercules. All of these characters want to just be themselves and fit in, but it's not that easy. For Mulan, she wants to be herself, but not if it means disappointing her family. She truly loves and respects them and is willing to try to be what society expects of her in order to maintain a good family image. As we've discussed, though, she can't do this, thus bringing us to the chorus:

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?

For some reason, I never really understood what মুলান meant দ্বারা this, and here I am right now feeling like a complete dunce. xD
Whenever মুলান sees her reflection, she sees what she's trying to be - the "perfect চীনামাটির বাসন doll". আপনি know this দ্বারা now. But she knows that's not who she is. She wants to be her true self while at the same time making her family proud. Of course, she feels that she can't be herself without giving the Fa family a bad name.

Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

(That last line is repeated, দ্বারা the way. ;D)
This basically re-establishes what she's already been saying. She hides her true self to try and fit society's expectations, yada yada. She awaits the day, if indeed there is a day, when she can be herself and not worry about dishonoring the family.

I'll bet (not really) you're thinking, "Wow, that's it? Short song." Indeed. It's a gorgeous song, but rather short. We'll now take a look at the extended version of the song. Why was the song trimmed? Let's find out!

Extended Version

Who is that perfect bride?
It's not me, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

The looking-into-the-mirrors bit should look familiar, as does this excerpt entirely. The only real way this contrasts with the পূর্ববর্তি excerpt I showed is that instead of her admitting to hiding herself, here, it's আরো directly related to what just happened in the movie *cough cough Matchmaker cough*.
The পরবর্তি excerpt is where the contrast comes in.

How I pray
That a time will come, I can free myself
From their expectations

আপনি know how the movie version mainly focuses on her wanting to please her family? I mean, yeah, she does want to be accepted as herself, but only if she can do so in an "honorable" way.
That gets thrown off a bit here. This suggests that she wants to be devoid from society's expectations altogether in order to live the life she wants. Let's continue on to see where I'm going with this.

On that day
I'll discover someway to be myself
And to make my family proud

Wait, haven't we gone over this already? Yep, we sure have! No need to talk this over again. It's the next stanza we want to take a look at.

They want a docile lamb
No one knows who I am
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?

Alright, let's see. She's saying that society is basically like this: We don't know who আপনি are, and frankly, we don't care. But we expect আপনি to be perfect. Got that? For someone they hardly know, society's putting a huge weight on Mulan's shoulders, and she's not happy about this. From that last line, she doesn't seem too satisfied with being "forced to hide" herself.
This is the part that makes this extended version of the song seem questionable in respect to what we actually saw in the movie. It makes মুলান seem a bit আরো selfish. Sure, she brings up wanting to make her family proud, but the extended song primarily focuses on how she feels with these expectations. She's had it. She just wants to come right out and be herself without the tension of fitting into the role of the "docile lamb".

Must I pretend that I'm
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

This excerpt makes my point much আরো clear. What makes the extended version and movie version similar is the fact that মুলান obviously wants to be herself. However, in the movie version, she seems mostly disappointed that her efforts to fit in don't work, and she hopes that she'll be able to make her family proud someday. Here, though, মুলান seems তিক্ত about the fact that society has set these expectations on her. She's sick and tired of pretending to be someone she's not.

So, let's quickly compare and contrast the two. :D

Both Versions:
- মুলান wants to be herself
- মুলান wants to make her family proud

Extended Version:
- Emphasis on wanting personal freedom from society's wishes
- তিক্ত about these aforementioned wishes
- তিক্ত about hiding herself

Final Cut:
- Mostly just emphasis on her desire to be herself; no detectable bitterness

And there আপনি have it! I hope আপনি enjoyed পাঠ করা this, as I had a ton of fun লেখা it. :) আপনি may want to check out my link song analysis of "If আপনি Can Dream" from a while back.
I'll bet that আপনি either a) are going to listen to the extended song right now অথবা b) already have, haha. :D
Well, that about wraps things up! Thanks so much for reading! Adios!

Well, it's time for another প্রবন্ধ here in Scarletland! I admit, I had this need for wanting to make another প্রবন্ধ again, but I didn't know of what subject to make of. Then browsing around the Internet, the inspiration struck me: I could write about ডিজনি villains! Genius! Because that subject isn't trite and overdone at all! (/sarcasm)

Jokes aside, I've been these last days thinking and analyzing the ডিজনি villains আরো than usual (that is; I almost never think about them, so this was really unusual for me). Villains are essential for many of these movies, because if it weren't for them...

So I really, really, really প্রণয় the ডিজনি Princess dance sequences, particularly with the waltz, as I find it to be so sweepingly romantic! The অ্যানিমেশন of the dance, the way the dress twirls with the women, the romantic and powerful score in the background, the gorgeous scenery in the background and the usually gorgeous dress worn দ্বারা the princess... I প্রণয় everything about these sequences! That's not to mention the প্রদর্শনী of romantic প্রণয় developing. I am very much an old soul so I really প্রণয় the process of "courting" which often included the man taking the woman out to dance অথবা dancing...

Okay, so I have come across a lot of criticism against Merida that she is childish, rude, reckless, selfish and what not. But since she's my 2nd পছন্দ princess, i'd like to put up a case in her favor for people to consider and see her in better light. I have tried to dissect the movie scenes, probed into possible perspective on various minor details that may have been overlooked.

Why she isn't sophisticated as others:
She no doubt loves both her mother and father, but Merida takes off a part of feisty, loud and unapologetically honest side from her father. She loves to fight with him, laughing...

I got inspired দ্বারা anukriti2409's প্রবন্ধ so I decided to write my own list, it was hard to do, but I narrowed it down to these 10 things, hope you'll enjoy this article

10. The Lantern Scene

This scene is imo the most beautiful 3d animated scene, especially the part where the King and কুইন releases their lantern and then the rest of the kingdom follows, that part gives me গুজ্‌বাম্প everytime. It also inspired me to release a lantern on New Year's Eve 2013

9. The Bayou Wedding Scene

This scene is the most beautiful thing from a DP Movie released after 2000, what especially makes this...

As some of আপনি might be able to tell, I have been in a very musical mood lately. Along those themes, I wanted to make 2 সঙ্গীত countdowns: 1 for Songs and 1 for Scores. I প্রণয় Disney's music, especially from the team of Alan Menken & Howard Ashman. I almost never like covers of DP songs দ্বারা ডিজনি Pop stars so unless otherwise mentioned, all versions here are the original ones from the film. Here are my rankings for পছন্দ songs:

Honorary Mentions:

So yesterday I wrote about my পছন্দ songs, today I'll write about the 10 best scenes, originally I was planning on only doing a শীর্ষ 5, but I felt that it was too little so I decided to do a শীর্ষ 10 list, like with the songs I প্রণয় all the scenes in the movie so placing them wasn't so easy, but I hope you'll like this প্রবন্ধ anyway

10. The Funeral Scene

This scene is so sad yet so beautifully animated and I couldn't resist putting this one on here since I হারিয়ে গেছে my grandmother just a few days ago, but even before that this has been one of the most beautiful scenes in the movie aswell as...

This was the solo জুঁই was originally going to sing in Aladdin. It is included in the Broadway adaptation <3.

"Call Me A Princess" is a song intended to be sung দ্বারা Princess জুঁই in Aladdin. In her early development she was supposed to be a typical, spoiled, bratty princess, and this song focused in on that. The developers scrapped the idea along with this song to make জুঁই the headstrong, compassionate woman we know today. If this song wasn't deleted it would have been the first solo song sung দ্বারা Jasmine, but now that শিরোনাম belongs to the song I've Got My Eyes on You.

The song was...
