I sort of wish she had a prince but I like her the way she is.

I really don't like it when people think Merida should have a prince. Not everyone gets married or has a relationship in real life, and I think it's realistic and about time a film featured a princess being happy without a prince.

Call me crazy but in a way I think it would've shown a growth and developement in her as a character if she did

How old is she anyway? I hear 16 a lot, but I felt like she was 14 or 15 yet not mature enough to be getting married yet. And I'm one of those people who love happy ends with the prince and the princess so it was hard to watch that and then think of her as a 'maybe' Disney Princess.

Actually Merida is not the first princess without a prince. Mulan is considered a princess, but she didn't marry a prince she married a army general. I like that Merida didn't marry one of the princes right away and she didn't say she would never marry. What she said is that she wanted herself and the sons of the lords to find love on their own so I respect her decision and it actually shows a great deal of character because she's basically saying that she takes relationships seriously.

I agree with Jessikaroo. And also she's only 16, she has her whole life ahead of her. Clearly she doesn't NEED a men at that age *cough*Aurora*cough* *cough*Ariel*cough*.

It's funny because I'm sure in those days you were married as a teenager and you did younger anyway so I don't really see the issue of getting married so young back in those days.. you forgot Jasmine and Snow White :O

Well, she is not a Disney Princess, she is just Pixar's Princess Merida. But I like her with or without a Prince.
She is kinda interesting ( unoriginal but interesting) on her own way.

She doesn't have to marry so soon, but at least she has a love interest. Perhaps Young MacGuffin. I like him to be her love interest.

With Merida the point is mood - since she is a Pixar Creation, I don't want her in the line-up either way.

I don't knowwwwwwwww......A lot of people say DPs are teaching girls that you "need a man to get through life" Merida could change that stereotype. Yet, at the same time, I 'd love to see her with a prince...

For the not having a prince thing, I don't think we really needed a princess like that. Jasmine, Mulan, Belle, Pocahontas and Tiana are independent. I mean every person deep down wants to be with someone, but it doesn't mean you need to be with someone.

it's not about having a prince that makes a princess special. and merida is great just as she is. she's independent and her character actually develops, and she learns from her mistakes. unlike some princesses..

As I have said multiple times in many different locations in this club, I don't think that Merida should be a Disney Princess because she is PIXAR's creation, and Disney are just adding her so they can get more money from the Princess franchise.

maryksand picked I don't care that much about the princes:
Don't have anything against Merida joining the line up, especially since multiple official sources spread rumors and hinted on it numerous times even prior to Brave release therefore it's not much of a surprize. What I don't get is why it should even be such a groundbreakingly significant issue that she doesn't have a prince. Some people praise her for being oh so feminist for not wanting a boyfriend/husband at 16 and others deny her right to be considered a DP solely because of the lack of a love interest. The story's primary theme and main focus was mother/daughter conflict, it was not essentially about princes anyway.
