Swanpride picked Flynn:
From a writing perspective, the Beast is quite a challenge, because aside from "he used to be spoiled and selfish but learned to love thanks to Belle" we know nothing about him. Eugene is quite easy to write, because I know his motivations, his dreams, his fears....that he like brunettes....

Both, but the Beast for being a ruler at a young age, who was spoilt and so didn't have any compassion for others and didn't care about anything but his own well being. The curse only angered him as he lived in self pity and loneliness inside his castle realizing that his servants would suffer to. When Belle came along he felt intimidated by her beauty (he himself being considered hansom thought she would be as shallow as him) and angered by her refusal and for speaking up for herself which made him more closed of and forceful towards her, only when she was given the chance to show her true nature and not a shallow snob really touched his heart and gave him hope and also actually truly cared for her well being and safety putting his selfish needs aside and just wanted her to be happy. This to me seems more complex Flynn is kind of cliche yeah he was an orphan who wanted a knew identity typical 80's remake of an early 20's novel to me.

The Spoiled and or Selfish guy/girl who finally turns to the better is hardly less a clichee...I base my judgement on how much profile the characters got. And honestly, there isn't much there for the beast, while Flynn is a more rounded character. If you would descripe be a random situation and ask me how Eugene would react, I could tell you...but most like I couldn't tell you how the beast would react.

It's not that Flynn is plain, but he's not complex.

Agree with Swanpride. As a writer, Eugene is a drool worthy character when it comes to complexity. The Beast , not so much. His character is a very overused trope. Not that complex.

Beast! By far! I find Flynn a rather generic character. To me, he's another version of Aladdin (the whole lying about who you are, because you're ashamed), except far less complex.

The Beast is a very complicated character, he was a young boy who was trapped in the body of a monster, and with every passing year, his isolation and dimming humanity was causing him to go mad. I just wish the BATB writers had kept in the scene of the Beast dragging animal carcasses into the castle, to show just how far gone he was, that he had become more animal than man.

The Beast is so dark and twisted in the beginning, it makes his transformation that much more rewarding, and Flynn just doesn't compare. His excuse for being a "bad boy" is kinda lame if you ask me. Sorry, Flynn fan-girls =(
