All the classics are, though. But I think Cinderella gets the most criticism that is unfounded- or at least, misguided.
One thing is this whole idea of how Cinderella should have left. People always say that you can't excuse problems in old movies just because they came out in a time with different standards, but that really can't be applied in Cinderella's case. There weren't the resources for women who were victims of abuse in the- oh- NINETEENTH century there are now. She would have been out on the streets with nothing and no means of getting anything. In a modern case, I'd say there was no acceptable choice other than to leave, but Cinderella was in different circumstances. In her case, staying strong and taking the chance she had to leave was brave. Ultimately, I'd probably respect and admire her more if she had left, but she was still brave.
Also, people make her out to be a simpering ninny when she's not. Cinderella isn't this ultimate positive force, she really does resent her situation. And again, despite the "you can't make excuses" argument, she really was a progressive character for her time.

I think they're all misunderstood. Some examples;
Ariel: Everyone thinks she's such a brat, but really she just made one mistake
Jasmine: She is not nearly as sassy as everyone says, and when she is there's a reason for it.
Tiana: Yes, she works hard, yes she isn't your average princess, but really she's so much more
Aurora: Her personality is more underlying, but it's still there and there's a lot of it actually

A lot of people act like she's some kind of heartless monster

Merida is not that bad! Nobody understand her feeling! She did a lot of mistakes but come one: SHE WAS FORCED TO GIVE UP WHAT SHE REALLY IS AND BECOME A PRINCESS! WHY DOESN'T anyone understand that!

People say she has no personality, and her life is nothing without her prince. She is so vibrant with personality (bossy, sassy, and a teasingly funny girl). She was fine without her prince, and only brought him up when the dwarfs brought her up.

My opinion about Aurora ain't changing

Not all characters can be alike, and she's on the calm and collected side, but her haters often fail to see that. Also Jasmine.

All the princesses are misunderstood on some level. Aurora the most because people say she has absolutely no personality, is just on the surface and is boring. Where in reality she has a subtle, shy and sweet personality, has a soul and is very captivating.

People berate her for ‘waiting around for her Prince Charming’ but... she didn’t. She saw her opportunity and she took it… *she* went to *him*. Not the other way round and hey, it paid off. Also people that say she should have ran away - um, no, she had no resources to do so and may have ended up in an even worse situation than the one she left (or dead). But what bothers me the most is when people call her (along with the 3 classic Princesses) "a weak doormat" when IMO Cinderella is the strongest Princess in the lineup. Among other things, I'm sure, but these are the ones I can think of at the moment.

I also think Jasmine is misunderstood a lot, too, and I'm honestly not just saying that because she's my favourite. Her haters a lot of the time just think she's a bitch or whatever, when IMO she's a lot nicer person than some of her haters give her credit for.

But to sum it up: basically all of the classic Princesses.
I just wish some people would realize that a female character who would rather dance and sing with the forest animals instead of shooting a bow and arrow does not a bad/weak character because of it.

Hating her because of her voice, thinking she is stupid for letting a stranger into the house... I think a lot of aspects of her personality are overlooked by many people who hate her.

A lot of people think she has no personality. Well, to be honest, she used to be my least favorite DP for a while. But yesterday as I re-watched her movie, I realized that she's a really great character. She's sweet, romantic, kind and hopeful.
