Not, sure. Kinda both. But when you try to rebel too much like Ariel you end up being kinda selfish. It's ok to live your life how you want and not let people tell you what to do but being obedient doesn't hurt.

By far, this is entirely (well, largely) why I prefer the Classics so much. It inspires me to try to think of myself less.

I don't like blind followers. I also don't like blind rebels. Really, I rather someone question their directions (Ariel) than follow for the sake of being kind (Aurora). "You must find intelligence before daring to challenge what you have been taught." - Rachel Orjuan. That quote is hypocritical actully, but it makes sense. In other words, Understand the situation and get both sides of "the" story, the story being your life at any given situation. Ariel's situation is "My father thinks humans are evil, but they are so interesting I don't believe him." She doesn't think about his side to it, and his side is understandable. She has been taught to hate humans, but immediately rebels simply because they interest her and she has no idea about their culture specifically. For all she knows Triton could be completely right, she does not have the "intelligence" of the human's behavior nor of Tritons experience or reasoning for his prejudice. She is blindly rebelling. Aurora is also blindly following, but she has a reason. Aurora KNOWS her aunts want what is best for her, it's one thing to believe and another to know. She knows this. Considering their age and love for Aurora it only seems logical to trust them and why not be kind? However Aurora is not CERTAIN her aunts know what they are doing, there by blindly following with out questioning there tactics. She blindly trust them and agrees to becoming a princess, which I admire dutifully speaking, but despise otherwise. Of course there is no harm in it. Ariel scenario has much harm of possibly her father being correct and her life being at risk to "spineless, savage, buffoon-like, fish-eaters, incapable of any feelings..." I despise both qualities equally, but at least Ariel had the courage to WONDER if her father was right or not and was willing to sacrifice herself for the knowledge. That's why I prefer Ariel though it's blindly rebelling she has to know for herself so she can "ask 'em her questions and get some answers." That is the part I admire. Perhaps I'm over analyzing this? But this is what I feel makes sense, at least if did in my head. Anyone follow?

I find Ariel to be adventurous - there is NO PART of her that comes off as selfish just cause she is curious or a rebel. IF that is the case then basically every Princess and every person in the world is selfish-which is also not the case. Ariel just is simply curious about what her father has deemed forbidden and what she likes, and at times impulsive too much, but not selfish. GASTON is selfish along with Vain and Conceited ( both are other words for selfish in the thesaurus- I can post a link to it) - always scheming to gain things only for himself and himself alone. Ariel just wanted more out of life which is something everyone has wanted at one point. People are confusing selfish with curiosity and impulsiveness when it comes to Ariel-And yes I understand and follow what you are saying BelleRose- that is a great quote and you made some great points about both Princesses.

I'm on the fence: I agree with BelleRose on "I don't like blind followers, but I also don't like blind rebels" subject. I appreciate compassion and kindness above everything else and I wish I was more obedient, but in life you must also question and break boundaries. However, when doing the later, you must be careful so you won't step on others.

Out of the two, though, Aurora is my favorite role-model, because while she is kind and obedient, she also questions her aunts' rules and wonders about the world (something I do a lot).

If by "break boundaries" you mean completely disregards the consequences of her actions and the safety of herself and everyone around her, then yes, I prefer one who is kind and cautious and puts others before herself. Not one who puts herself before others even knowing it'll hurt, inconvenience, and endanger them.
