...Okay, on Fanpop, she deserves more recognition, but outside of FP, many seem to think she's the "ONLY good Disney female role model", and give her too much credit for things other Disney girls have all ready done.
I'd say underrated here, overrated out there.

She doesn't get much recognition

I think she's pretty popular outside of Fanpop and especially outside the Internet. And you know how I feel about her... I don't want to go on and on about how I am not on the same page as people who think she is a good example of feminism and is revolutionary.

I could go on and on about this. I see lost of people calling her a brat and just whiny, and yes she was in the beginning, but at least she had her reasons and her mom was unfairly cruel. But I don't see why people just skip over the end when she has the BEST character development and she actually apologizes for what she does. she is perfectly flawed, and I like that. Plus lots of people call her a damsel in distress for almost getting eaten by a bear, but come on it was a BEAR that thing has the strength of ten men for god sake and plus at least she TRIED to do something instead of cowering in a corner.

^Seriously? Merida isn't really popular compared to other princesses. I saw some peoples were disparage and hated her, they often calling her a brat.

On here, she's seriously underrated. Ariel is far too loved here, contrary to many who believe otherwise. Merida's always criticized for her loud character, often overlooking her reasons.

^Wow. The last poll on the "selfless thing" proved otherwise. Ariel went straight out by a landslide before Merida did. Ariel is the opposite of far too loved on here. I have to look at your comment and scratch my head in disbelief. You're just way off on the actual facts. But sure, Merida is underrated from the Merida's fans perspective. She's totally overrated to me, because she's a tool to bash Ariel.

What anukriti said - even if Merida does get attention, it's usually negative attention.

The qualities she gets praised for( willfulness, ambition, boldness) are overrated IMO. I don't think they are as valuable as optimism( Snow White), wisdom( Pocahontas), compassion( Cinderella), humbleness( Mulan) or responsibility( Aurora). Not even close.
I hate Scarlett O'Hara and Blair Waldorf who get praised for the same traits Merida does.
