No, it only matters for the region the story takes place in. I guess part of my answer could be "Yes, I want a character I can relate to culturally!" Not to relate necessarily but because I like the traditional European fairy tale style the best. I like the castles, dresses, royalty, dances, and the vibes of those stories. I like the first five princess movies best and one part I like about them is they are so beautifully Old Europe it makes me happy. :)

Diversity's nice, but it's not what makes or breaks a movie for me.

It feels like there's enough white disney princesses, I know a lot of people of color would love to see a dp who isn't white they can relate to and be excited about

I don't really mind either way, but I prefer if there were more PoC, we had five white princesses already then after they reverted back to white princesses again where I think diversity was still needed. The only white princess I was really glad to see because it explore culture more was Merida.

I used to want more diversity. Then, I realized that even though the characters were growing more diverse, their value system kept further diverging from my own value system.

Other factors now matter more to me. Values matter more to me than the skin color.

I do like to have more diversity in DP lineup but it's not the most important thing from a princess imo. Her personality, characterization, and values matters more for me.

It doesn't mean I like PoC automatically more than white. I love Pocahontas and Tiana. I have compicated feelings for Mulan( I strongly relate to her, I sympatize her for facing so much injustice, I love her design but at the same time I find her overrated). I don't care about Jasmine.
However, I am very glad that Disney created PoC princesses. I don't like that fairytales are often associated with medieval Europe. I know a lot of beautiful Middle Eastern and Chinese tales, they are no less beautiful, just less famous.

To judge people by race and how they look stupid. The main thing that a person has inside. If a person is ugly in the depths of the soul, no appearance and origin is no longer important. But I encourage diversity at the same time. I just do not want to focus too much on this.

not really..i dont want diversity for the heck of it. Neither do i relate to someone just because they are of the same race. So, it doesnt matter.

Also, race =/= culture. I'm white like Merida but can't relate to her culturally.

I don't care if a character is white, brown, pretty, plain, short, etc because it has nothing to do with their values or choices, which is all I really look for. It's nice to have a princess who shares your looks or culture for sure, but I don't find it necessary. I mean, I adore Norway but I'd probably still like and relate to Anna as much as I do if she were American or Italian or Cambodian or whatever.

And please miss me with that "white people have no diversity" Americentric nonsense. (And even then white Americans still have it.). If you mean nonwhite, just say that.

^I know this is 3 years late, but I just wanted to say I was not meaning to imply any of that. Just that we have several white princess (that are very culturally diverse) but no PoC princess that repeats itself. When/If Raya is added, it’ll be the the first time there were two princesses of the same race that wasn’t white.

Anyways, I thought I did imply nonwhite by saying PoC, but I wanted to be inclusive and say culture, just in case someone did want another white princess that was culturally different from the others, thus not making it racially more diverse, but implies that the race does still matter because it has to reflect the culture. Like if someone wanted a Russian DP or something they could choose “Yes, I want someone I can relate to culturally” while not necessarily being an advocate for diversity. Anyway very sorry for the mix up! Didn’t mean you offend you there AudreyFreak :)
