His character evolves much more, plus everything Belle does seems to revolve around him.

The story is ultimately about the Beast becoming a good person. Belle just feels like a complete filler character. Not only is she boring and bland, but she does things just for the Beast to get the correct reaction from them.

It's her story. For the first part of the film, the Beast is an antagonist. Belle is the heroine who we know more about and she is the one who changes the villain into a good guy. She's the one everything revolves around - the Beast breaking his curse, Gaston's obsession, Maurice's beloved daughter, the castle objects' one last hope etc. And the opening number isn't called "Beast" lol.

Actually I do consider both to be main heros, because almost every movie has two protagonists, male and female...
But if I had to pick one, I'm closer to dweeb's opinion.
It is about Belle, there were her songs, about her life, about her dreams, about her sense, about her ability to see the inner beauty and to break the curses. Without her there was no happy end!

Both of them really, and not just because both of their characters are in the title. Their individual stories are so interconnected that it's extremely hard to view one without thinking of the impact that the other had on his/her life.

I agree with becca85. But the beast is clearly the most defining character to the story since all fairy tales involve a "beauty" of some kind. And yes he also has the biggest journey of any of the characters but the story's moral or lesson is ultimately dependent upon both of them. Tis a tough call.
