Yeah, I definitely agree about Tiana. She constantly preaches to Naveen about how he should work harder and be more like her. At the beginning, she kind of looks down on him. Belle is just a bit more snobby, though.
Hah, snobby. That's a silly word.
Anyway, time for me to be completely biased. Belle is a huuuuuuuge snob. She sees herself as better than other people and consequently shuts herself away from them claiming to be "different". What is so different about Belle? She reads, so what? You're reading right now. She carries herself in a very up-turned nose sort of way as well and she just seems to ooze this sort of "Oh, no, I'm not talking to you" attitude. This only really seems to change with the Beast and she is put in her place by his anger. She still manages to be a bit bitchy with him by making herself become the one in the right on every occasion by scolding him. Girl, if he doesn't want you to go into a room in his house where he has kindly let you be a prisoner outside of the cells, you respect that and don't act like a snob by walking right on in there and touching his stuff. Then she's always in that "Belle knows best" mindset when she's changing him for her rather than being willing to change herself for him in return.
Tiana, on the other hand, is not a snob. She's a pretty serious person, but she knows her place and respects that. She works hard to achieve her dream. A dream which is not impossible and can be achieved without her acting like a snob to people. Yes, she gets irritated and can seem a little spiteful at times to Naveen. But don't we all? That doesn't make you a snob. She never looks down on anybody, particularly not in the way that Belle does so frequently.
There, you wanted my biased opinion and you got it. In the form of an essay.
^ Um btw it's not that I disagree with you, but I completely disagree when you said "What is so different about Belle? She reads so what? You're reading now.." -- Think of the era it was made.. it's now the 21st century, it wasn't then.
It was the 18th century, based on the dress. There wasn't anything better to do than read. I have the fairytale book from Ladybird. It always made me wonder how she didn't get bored out of her skull when all there was to do was paint flowers and read books. It was a pretty normal thing for a middle class girl to do. They were expected to read, write, draw, sing and play music.
I agree with Straggy on this one. Belle is the snob in this question because she chooses to set herself so far apart from others - and then when she's far enough away she makes a show of how much better than them she is. "Poor me, I don't fit in ANYWHERE." Well, that could happen to be because you don't make an effort either couldn't it Belle?!! ;) LOL
AnnaKay19 I disagree with you aswell about "making no effort" -- did you not see her try and talk to the Baker, and he just says "thats nice" and walks off?
And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't she talking to someone else later on in the "Belle" sequence? When Gaston says "I've got my sights set on that one!" and it shows Belle talking to someone? Correct me if I'm wrong..
Tiana does have snobby moments but definitely not to Belle's degree IMO. But Straggy's argument doesn't make any sense- it's ok for Tia to be harsh with Naveen because "don't we all?" but Belle does the same thing and it's a problem?
Anyway, the issue is Tiana is judgy but mainly because she has some pretty high moral values. Belle is snobby bevause she thinks highly of herself. Tiana wants to reach her full potential and seems to expect that from others which is where the snobbery comes in. But Belle is just kind of a sheltered middle class girl who doesn't seem to understand not everyone has the privilege to read all day.
Belle isn’t really snobbish. She isn’t even judgemental or arrogant to me. She doesn’t seem even to have high standards on men( not being like Gaston is a low standard to me). Talking about looking down at people who don’t read, she fell for the guy who learnt to read recently and definitely read less books than her.
I don’t see Tiana as a huge snob( none of DPs is to me) but she criticizes others far more often.
That is a big thing about Belle being snobbed!:)
*stomach gurgles* I really wish I knew how to make beneighs
