It's pretty simple, especially compared to the other DP movies. Simple shapes, simple colour schemes, etcetera.

I recently watched all the DP movies again, and this one really didn't age well at all. Especially the animation of the carpet looks very, very dated. "Snow White" just had its 75th aniversary and the animation doesn't look half as akward as the one in Aladdin, and the movie is barely 20 years old. And otherwise...Jafar turning into a snake is just a repitition of Maleficient turning into a dragon.
On a more personal note: I also don't like the cartooney style they choose for this movie. But the main reason for choosing it first is really that you can't stop noticing where they blend computer animation with traditional animation.

Aladdin? Seriously? It has one of the greatest animation out of the movies. Jasmine's movements are so graceful and her garden and bedroom awww :3
By the way, this animation is pretty awful, gray, boring and very simple. I mean squared trees? uhh, and Aurora's castle is the ugliest Disney castle ever.

Plain in comparison to the others... the animation of the castle/ballgown are amazing but overall not so great.

Also sleeping beauty. The colors and the drawing doesn't impress me that much. Not as good as the others.

I'm really not a fan or the animation it looks so lazy and to pointy? I know Sleeping Beauty has quite sharp drawings but it's somehow different? I don't know maybe I'm being to fussy.. but it really does look like the creators relied on everyone to love this film so just didn't put there all into it

Without a doubt. I just don't like it's style that much and think it's easily worse than the others. The drawing style is too simple and cartoony in my opinion. After that it gets hard, I would probably vote for Mulan or The Little Mermaid next.

I'm not that fond of Patf either... I mean they're all amazing but just in comparison. And I don't know why some are voting for TLM, I think it's one of the best. Sleeping Beauty, not one of my favourites but jesus the backgrounds are so god damn impressive.

I think both Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty have amazing animations. PatF on the other hand didn't impress me at all. It was quite unoriginal and while the use of colors was somewhat good, the animation did not give me a reason to think that it's something extraordinary!

The classics have really good animation for how long ago they were made and so did PatF and Tangled. Pocahontas is okay...next would be TLM, Mulan or BatB

Well in Aladdin atleast ,they get the sparkles right. Just like in the picture. In TLM, there's NO good landscapes and everything is very plain. The animation never changes. On the backgrounds I agree with Dimitri_is_hot. It's plain, but I love how the shapes all come together in the backgrounds. It's highly impressive, and beautiful.

Most impressive- ok, so this isn't favorite, right? Because if it were by least favorite, Tangled would be last for me easily.
This style is the kind you would get from any other animation company, it isn't DISNEY animation. There's just nothing really impressive about it. I can see why people are voting out The Little Mermaid, I have to agree that the backgrounds aren't that great and sometimes even kind of make me uneasy, if that makes sense.
HOW is Sleeping Beauty being voted out already? It is gorgeous and just stunning! It is a very... stylized style. It is meant to look like a painting/ tapestry you would see in a medieval castle, and still somehow manages to be very smooth. It's fantastic!

Seriously...Sleeping beauty plain? Plain????? No other disney movie, not even Tangled which can use the advantages of CGI, has such a detailed background (and Tangled is impressive in it's own right...the two things which are the most difficult to animated in a way it looks realistic, are water and especially hair (which is the reason the only hair we got to see from Pixar before Monster AG was either braided or as short as possible). Tangled does both, and it looks more realistic than anything, I've seen before).
I'm with rhythmicmagic...when it comes to animation, Sleeping Beauty is gorgeous! And unique! (And the trees are squared because the style is inspired by medival tapestry...the whole movie is one giant moving picture).

Those of you freaking out because I call Sleeping Beauty's animation bland and plain I have two things to say. First GET OVER IT and secondly GET SOME HELP! The colors are inconsistent, the background is dull, and the people look weird, I'm not calling them ugly but the way they're animated is bland and weird.

cgi is not animation to me-not even a little bit-it's crap

^ CGI is animation and it is legitimately classified as one of it's categories, with equal - and in some cases like the Tangled case even bigger - amount of effort being put into using and exploring/exploiting all of the dimentions, options and possibilities this medium can provide. Tangled, visually stunning, overwhelmingly colorful and realistic/layered as it is, spent years in development with concept arts, pencil sketches and finally the computer programming process being combined together in order to create the vivid and dimentional picture. First time I watched the movie in a rather bad quality but remember - even then - being completely amused and profoundly impressed by the quality of animation, including the locations, the animation of the tower, the dimentions of Rapunzel's hair and the admirably accurate reflection of actual human facial expressions.

As much as I love Cinderella, the animation in the movie - aside from the dress transformation and the ball scene - is not nearly as impressive as in others. And frankly, it's astonishing that people vote off Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin so soon considering they had exceptionally stunning scenes such as the colorful and incredibly detailed nature display or the magic carpet ride, respectively.

They are all beautifully animated. I was going to pick Snow White at first but considering the movie came out in 1937 and that it was all hand-drawn without using computers...well the film still looks amazing so I decided to go with Aladdin, which also has some gorgeous scenes. For instance the animation in the Cave of Wonders or during the Whole New World sequence is quite lovely. The special effects in the battle with Jafar are also pretty great. It's a great combination of hand-drawn animation and computer animation but I if I have to pick one...
I also thought about Cinderella, but the Mary Blair inspired backgrounds are just wonderful!

Either The Little Mermaid or Cinderella. Both are pretty ordinary compared to the others. With TLM I would expect very impressive animation because of the underwater landscapes, but I really don't think that it took full advantage of them.

and, yeah, it's strange that Aladdin is going to be the first one to left o.O It has a great animation, especially for the Cave of Wonder or the Carpet.

I have to agree with Swanpride on this one. Sleeping Beauty's animation is anything but plain IMO.

and think "plain" is beyond me. I'm actually flabbergasted that people use that word to describe Sleeping Beauty. Again, if you don't like the animation style, that's fine, but plain? Really? Of all words in the english language to use... PLAIN?!?!

Sleeping Beauty's animation is wonderful! Are people here listing their least favorite style of animation of what? I personally don't find any DP's animation dull or bad.
Would someone care to clear something to me. Is this countdown about how good film looks(backgrounds, characters desing etc.) or how good the animation itself is(how good movements/expressions are, does characters look like themselves during the whole movie etc.)? I'm quite unsure I got it right and I might change my pick. Thank you.

I picked Tangled because I generally prefer 2D to 3D animation. I'm not at all impressed by the 3D. Maybe by the first movie, I think it was Toy Story, but nowadays I prefer 2D all the way.

@fiina Well, what you consider impressive might differ, and frankly, there aren't really many badly animated Disney movies (and even them are only badly animated by Disney standard, not badly animated in general).

I judged based on the following apects:

1. Was the movie inventive at the time it hits the theaters (for example a movie like Snow White gets higher points for being the first one than a movie which basically only repeats what Disney already did before).
2. Did it age well (as I mentioned that was the reason Aladdin had to go first, because that movie didn't age well at all. The computer animation used, while impressive back then, is quite an eyesore when you watch the movie today, especially the palace looks very fake in the carpet flying scenes.
3. How much work went into it and how good was the result - there the three older movies have an advantage, because they were still done by hand-inked animation, so a detailed background like the one you can see in the link mongoose posted is naturally especially impressive in Sleeping Beauty. When you compare the to a background from, for example, The Little Mermaid, which isn't half as detailed, but was made with technology which didn't exist back in the 1950s, natrually Sleeping Beauty gets higher points from me than for example The Little Mermaid.
4. How big of a challange had the animators to face. Tangled for example was a big challenge, because hair, water and the movement of clothes are three of the most difficult things to animate (along with fire - that's expecially true in CGI, but also an issue in more traditional animation), and Tangled tackled all three aspects and did it damned well (with computer software especially written for the movie).
5. Do I like the style of the movie and does it fit - that's naturally a matter of taste. I personally like it more when Disney doesn't use its "house style" and goes more out of the box.

The animation in Tangled wasn't bad, but I prefer hand-drawn movies.

@Mongoose Yeah, thank you, exactly my sentiment. If someone doesn't like the more stylized drawings, or things that the lack of perspective in the background is distracting, okay, but plain???? Every single piece of furniture in the cottage has wood carvings, there is a myriad of details in the background. The last word I would use to descripe this is "plain".
