She is selfish, inconsiderate, reckless, irresponsible, ignorant girl that just wants more. She knew that Ursula was a sea witch, and went to her out of spite. She originally wanted to go on land to learn about unanswered, bt it becomes more about Eric as the movie goes along. She just does not care to listen to anyone and only deals with the people who has her ideas (Flounder), and spazz on anyone that does not agree with her or try to protect her (Sebastian). At least Jasmine said goodbye to her friends and Merida knew what we did was wrong. She should have left before Merida

Sorry, but I hate her! Pretty ironic considering that I like her in the sequel and TV series. Anyway Ariel is really stupid, selfish, rude, immature, and whiny. The only good things I can say about her in the original movie is that she has a beautiful voice and I like how she saved the prince. Ariel was dumb for going to Ursula knowing that she was evil. She did that out of anger. She wasn't thinking about the consiquences until it was the last day. Also her age is no excuse! Just because she's a teenager, doesn't mean she has to be so ignorant. I'm 17 and I make bad choices, but I wouldn't do something that stupid. Also I thought it was very rude of her to leave Sebastian while he was singing "Under the Sea" and leave while "Daughters of Triton". She could of at least done it at another time. She pretty much sold her soul for a vagina

She's hypocritical and at times just unreasonable. I mean, she gets mad at Aladdin for agreeing with WHAT SHE WAS SAYING- she made a trap for him, and she gets mad at him for getting caught in it, even when you could tell he was uncertain about what he was saying! She's a brat!
Today's one of those times I hate her. I really go back and forth with her.

I don't hate her at all. In fact, the only reason why she isn't higher on my list is because I connect to the others more and prefer them. The point is, she is MUCH stronger than people make her seem to be. People want to cinderella to be this kind of hard working machine. I'm sorry, but Cinderella is a human being like all of us. After years and years of being physically and verbally abuse that she has tried and tried and tried and tried some more nothing has worked. This movie shows a sense of reality. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it just isn't going to work. She lived in a time period where their was no I can just call the police and he/she can deal with it. Imagine being bullied by bullies for every day of your life and forced to become a slave in your own house. I hope people realize that that was not her stepmom's house. The point is, when you are treated like that, you feel like you have lost your strength no matter how much determination you have. I'm sure most of us here were bullied. Well cinderella is severely bullied every day of her life and I don't even consider bullied the right word. Anyway, Cinderella still had the strength to keep dreaming and stay strong which is technically the right thing to do. Constantly arguing and raging is going to get you nowhere. The only thing it does is get you all tense everything and just raging and rebelling will get you mad that causes you to mess things up more. Cinderella still stayed strong, confident, and worked hard but did the most she could. She did the logical thing. It's like arguing with an idiot. The more you respond and respond and rage and argue it's just going to get you into a never ending debate. But she stayed confident and has a ton of personality. Anyway. I love the others more.

Wow people really have very strong opinions about all of the princesses... I wish I could give a better reason for picking Pocahontas but the truth is that I just like the others better. I haven't got any problem with her (with none of them, actually). I thinks she's awesome; she's brave, strong, pretty and she prevented a freakin war! Like I said, I like her, I just like the others better.

I don't like her AT ALL! She's FAR too perfect, whiny, a damsel in distress, and does some dumb things. It really bugs me how she promised to stay at the castle forever for her father's freedom but she runs away. Yeah that can't back fire AT ALL, NOT! I hate how she has no flaws at all, I can't relate to or respect characters like that. Also it bugs me how she had to be saved by a tea cup that was only five years old. Seriously? That's more heroic and useful than her? However I don't hate or dislike her at all.

I watched The Little Mermaid today, and I feel people are way too hard on Ariel. Her dream was to become a human, and she took the chance. Stupid? Yes. Should you hate her for it, when you'd probably do the same thing? No.

i get why people dislike ariel but why is she a whiny brat for the same reasons people call jasmine STRONG and assertive??
ariel is at least brave and a nice friend, the only nice things jasmine ever did was give the kid an apple and say goodbye to raja.
frankly i think jasmine is worse. she had a bad attitude the whole movie, is a hypocrite, is too sensual, and i cant stand that people think she's adorable for not knowing what money is but call snow white stupid for not magically know the queen was the hag!! urghh.

belle is tied with jasmine but for different reasons, she is boring and too prim for me. snow white is proper but at least she has fun and reaches out to people and doesnt feel sorry for herself.

@dclairmont: thank you for standing up for her it just breaks my heart when people diss her like this I respect their opinions of course but it still hurts why can't people just use the word dislike instead of hate? its such a strong word and its just plain mean but especially rude when you talk about someone bottom line is that its a word that shouldn't be said at least that's what I was taught.

People seem to either hate characters that are full of flaws (ariel merida) or hate characters that are too perfect (Cinderella, belle)

I feel like this has to do with how the princess reflects on ourselves...we like flawed characters cuz they have similar flaws to ourselves, the are more human...or we like perfection to look up as a role model...

or we hate flaws and act like critics, wanting the princesses to be better, or we hate perfection because we feel undermined cuz we don't meet the same standard or maybe because it's un realistic

She is stupid, selfish, whiny and rude. She doesn't care about her family and friends. She is always rude and whines how she wants more, but actually did not have the guts to follow her dreams until she met Eric. He was the reason she left the sea and deserted her family, not her desire to go on land. Also she is probably one of the stupidest Disney characters ever! She trusted a sea witch, who is known by all to be evil! And I strongly believe that if she wasn't a mermaid, people wouldn't like her half as much.
