The language barrier =.= I don't like it when things like that happen magically. You can basically make anything happen out of ''listen with your heart'', it makes a movie flawed and dull IMO.

"Love your perfect imperfectionsss" Okay random song line..sorry, sorry. I really love that line though ^-^ ANyway, yeah the sound barrier is kind of strange, but I'm just obsessed with this movie honestly I just find it perfect no one can convince me otherwise.

Anyway an explanation could be they learned from another tribe who learned from white people? Eh, idk..best I've got. Or there's that whole "Grandmother Willow's spirit went inside her and gave her the magic to know the language" which actually seems plausible.

I noticed a few like Kocoum not bleeding when he got shot and other things but I can't remember them right now. Almost all of them if not all of them have mistakes/plot holes.

When Pocahontas was talking to John Smith, how did Nakoma know what they were talking about if it was in English?

The compass pointed to sunrise though sun normally rises from east.. I don't know if it's mistake but it's confusing.

All the shots in the movie are bloodless apparently

Digging for Gold! Want a hit? Finding Gold GENERALLY DOESN'T INVOLVE DIGGING

And FInally

Pocahontas:"Pocahontas"

John Smith:"What"

Pocahontas:"My Name is Pocahontas"

O.o

Really......................

So remember kids, next time you have a language barrier: Praise Jesus

God I don't even know WHY I'm taking a foreign Language class.

Also why Did Pocahontas learn English, how come John Smith couldn't have learned Powhatan. And why did we need to use magic, couldn't have they have created a touching communication scene alla The Miracle Worker?

I guess this movie was to high and mighty for that.

Also the story has no stakes, the characters are boring, and it's stereo typically native American.

Disney fell of the wagon with this movie

Kocoum doesn't bleed. Pocahontas can all of a student talk to John Smith. She is not even 12 like she was in real life. The just of it being made, since it can't be a children film and be historically accurate I don't see the reason in making it. That's just me in my crazy world of weirdness.

Some plot holes don't really bother me, like the English thinking they'll get gold by digging or Pocahontas magically understanding John Smith. The former can be chalked up to the English being ignorant of how gold is actually obtained (the narrative makes it clear they're out of their element in Virginia), and the later with Grandmother Willow / Pocahontas' mother's spirit / Pocahontas' shamanic magic.

What does bother me is:

- Kocoum's bloodless gunshot wound.

-Nakoma understanding Pocahontas and John Smith's conversation without being embraced by the colors of the wind, as both Pocahontas and Powhatan are before they can speak with the settlers.

-The narrative using Meeko and Percy's conflict as a microcosm of the Native / settler conflict, despite how Meeko keeps starting the conflicts by robbing and tormenting Percy for no reason.

-The narrative treating the Native / settler conflict as being "both sides at fault," despite that we're shown the settlers starting it time and time again. As Wiggins sums it up: "We [the settlers] invaded their land, cut down their trees and dug up their earth." And shot at them when the Natives were just observing.
