i like family guy but peter is an obvious copy of homer

on the whole no, but there are a couple of scenes which you can argue have been "copied" but to be honest i think family guy is a whole lot funnier so they have done well with scenes they have "borrowed"

i agree famguy is better but to an extent Seth Macfarlane did steal thew idea for an all american family but made it take more risks

:| they both are compleatly different. yes they both are made for entertainment and laughter but the simpsons is more made for everyone. family guy can be for everyone but some scenes arnt for everyone. family guy goes back on some moments such as the simpsons dont do much of that. they didnt copy at all because you dont see maggie speaking, peter can act dumb but can also be really random at times which is funny., homer is childish but still funny but not random... lois and marge i dont see much of a difference. bart and chris, bart is a daredevil, chris is the dumbest student in the school as said on family guy season 7. meg is the character that is the least liked such as lisa is the brainiac. so i dont see how family guy could of compleatly copyed the simpsons

They seem to have a lot of similarities and a lot of differences.

The similarities are in the character design and setting. They're about families including an overweight, lazy and dumb father, a housewife mother, an intellectually-challenged son, a social outcast daughter and a baby who is far from innocent. The father is often seen at the bar with his friends too, as an example of similarities in setting and locations.

The main difference between them though is the actual content. Family Guy is pure comedy. The Simpsons has a lot of post-modernism and makes references to things that have actually happened in real life:

For example, the episode about Itchy and Scratchy being stolen from the original creator - that's a reference to when Felix the Cat was believed to be stolen in our world.

And the episode with the talking Stacey dolls being a bad influence on young girls is a reference to the talking Barbie dolls that said "math class is tough". Also, some anti-Barbie group apparently switched the talking Barbie phrases with the talking Spiderman phrases once (so I've heard), and this is referred to in the Simpsons when a talking Stacey says "my spidey sense is tingling!"

Sometimes the Simpsons even covers some more serious storylines, whereas Family Guy is completely comedy driven and anything that does make a reference to anything "serious" is very tongue-in-cheek and never very deep. As such, the style of humour is more varied in Family Guy too. I think the show's rated 15? They're humour is definitely riskier and aimed at just the older audience, while the Simpsons is a bit cleaner so it can be shown during the day, and any adult jokes in the Simpsons are the kind that would just go over a kid's head.

So I can see why some people think they're very similar and why some people think they're very different. I think it depends on which details you're paying attention to at the time. So I guess both sides to the argument are right in a way!
