Chapter 12: A Diamond From Black Dust
"Ugh! This is getting us nowhere!"
Edward whispered harshly as he slammed down yet another folder, empty of the information he was seeking.
"You're just lucky the Colonel had a meeting today with one of the commanders from the troops they sent to the North." Sheska ব্যক্ত blatantly, setting another stack of papers onto Ed's ডেস্ক in the library. Ling and Hayden were sifting noisily through যেভাবে খুশী bookshelves, but no sign of a Solf J. Kimblee so far. Alphonse was babysitting Boston, playing with his tiny paws and poking his tubby belly.
"Thanks again for getting us in here unnoticed. I swear I'll repay you." Edward said, casting his eyes upward from his stack of papers. Sheska just grinned and sorted through another stack of documents.
"Ed! Have these, too." Ling smiled as he tossed আরো papers behind his head to Edward. Ed caught them angrily, snatching out of the air with a sharp snap of the arm. He cracked open yet another folder. This one was different though, stained yellow with age and torn up along the edges from burn marks. Ed slowly sifted through the papers, sorting them left and right. And there, staring him back in the face; was the cold eyes of a man named Solf J. Kimblee. His পরিলেখ picture was odd, his face was concrete, yet his eyes read pure happiness; pride even.
"Found him..." Edward ব্যক্ত slowly, gulping audibly. Ling and Hayden swarmed the ডেস্ক and stared down at his picture. This was him. The man who was called a "monster", "evil" among other names. The same man who spilled blood across the sun bleached sands of Ishval. This man was staring back at the three teens from the page. Hayden inhaled deeply; sucking all the air in the room into her shaky lungs. A shiver crawled up her spine, she had seen this man before; but where? Scar. In his eyes was this man, but what connection did they have?
"So we found our man. He was locked up for murdering his own people...and was released just over a মাস ago. I can't imagine the reasoning was good..."
Edward pondered; kicked back in his chair. He turned to Sheska.
"Thanks for your help."
Not even the iron bars could hold the maverick of a man. Not even the law could keep him down. But what had it earned him? Whispers and hisses through his jail cell from the other prisoners. The people who had no room to talk whatsoever, men who were locked away for reasons like his. Was it selfish to have a insatiable thirst for power? He hadn't thought so; isn't that what everybody is striving for? In order to get to the শীর্ষ আপনি have to step on a few other competitors. That's how he figured what he was doing was right and just. All the bloodshed for his country. He couldn't help his rebel soul; he chose to যোগদান the military, and didn't প্রশ্ন authority. So, sure he wasn't the most sane of soldiers; but he did as he was commanded, earning him praise from the higher-ups. Kimblee mulled these thoughts over and over again through his one-track mind as he patrolled the beaten streets of Dublith, slowly making his way to Rush Valley. He had promised Greed and company that he would return with the Homunculus. He wasn't in any hurry to return it to father quite yet, he had other plans for it.
"I'm sorry we couldn't retrieve any sort of resource from Holt; Sir. It was like there was nothing there...well, someTHING was there." A soldier sat across a টেবিল from Colonel Mustang, his head hung low as he fumbled with his fingers. আমেরিকার বন্য ঘোড়াবিশেষ wasn't all too amused with what the soldiers had returned with, and what they had left behind. Roy only pulled the troops out of Holt after almost a week of searching for the troublesome Elric Brothers.
"What do আপনি mean 'some THING?'"
A deep voice erupted from the seemingly cool and calm man, sitting with his arms crossed over his thick chest. The soldier made eye contact with the Colonel for the first time; and when he had it, he wasn't letting go.
"There's some sort of infection there...the city isn't empty. There's these creatures there. I can't explain them...bloodthirsty savages. That's all that's left."
Roy mulled over the peculiar circumstance. Maybe they needed to make it to the North sooner than they thought.
"Tell me more."
মতামত please! Thanks! :)
