\'Game of Thrones\' PSA: Please stop calling Daenerys \'Khaleesi\'
Game of Thrones has been added to your favorites.
Queen of Meereen. Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Protector of the Realm. Mother of Dragons. Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea.
These are all the titles of Daenerys Targaryen, arguably the main character on "Game of Thrones." So please, for goodness sake, stop calling her "Khaleesi" like it\'s her first name.
RELATED: Everything you need to know to start watching "Game of Thrones"
In the context of the HBO fantasy series, many characters refer to Dany as "Khaleesi" (basically the term "queen" for the Dothraki people) but it\'s as a term of respect, not a nickname. It\'s like calling Barack Obama "Mr. President," or calling Queen Elizabeth "your majesty" -- you do it when you\'re addressing them, but you don\'t do it when you\'re discussing them.
the Khaleesi, or the Mother of Dragons, or the Queen of Meereen. But some people have taken to calling her "Khaleesi" like it\'s her first name. Just check out this PopSugar video where she isn\'t referred to by her actual name once.
This isn\'t a one-off situation. In fact, as of 2014 there were 146 babies named "Khaleesi" in the United States, and it was named the 18th most popular baby name of the year.
That\'s like naming your child "King" or "Countess" or "President." It just. doesn\'t. make. sense. Sure, the terms used in "Game of Thrones" are complicated -- it\'s a fantasy series, after all -- but people should have some grasp of the words they\'re using to name human beings.
This is something that has been driving some "Game of Thrones" fans (not just me, promise) crazy for years.
If you\'re a Game of Thrones fan, and don\'t know that the Khaleesi\'s real name is Daenerys Targaryen, then you\'re not really a fan.
her name is not khaleesi that is her title her name is daenerys you nitwit
If I see one more person refer to daenerys as "khaleesi" and not THE Khalessi. imma shoot myself, IT\'S A TITLE NOT A FRICKING NAME.
The confusion arises because many characters only refer to Daenerys as "Khaleesi" on the show. Here\'s the catch: Unless you\'re really, really close to a person in power, you don\'t usually go around calling them by their first name to their face. In Daenerys\' case, she\'s more than just a queen of the Dothraki; she\'s one of the most powerful people in the world.
So please, please, please stop calling Dany by her title unless you\'re addressing her (a fictional character) to her face. Which, let\'s face it, you probably aren\'t.
