Why is it imperatively wrong to read a fantasy novel that uses methods that are abhorrent to oneself to promote love?
Why is it imperatively wrong to feel compassion with everyone that dies painfully in book seven for a cause that is no different to Sophie Scholl's cause? Just because they use other means to serve that cause? Means that are banned by a book that MEN has concocted? Men that also states that if you disobey your parents no matter what cause, you're going to die with a fusilade of stones crashing into you? Men that states the person working on Sundays will die in a similar fusilade of stones?
Why? Cannot you see past that damnable mother of all burqas? Cannot you feel an ounce of compassion, even for the girl - whom I've forgotten page references to - that dies in Ginny's arms in the Battle of Hogwarts, longing after her mother?
I'm sorry guys, but I'm not very happy right now and I deeply dislike religious fundamentalists.
One last word. Go visit the Neue Wache, in Berlin. There's a statue there dedicated to the deaths in WWII, go there and contemplate its meaning.
(@writer)I really find this silly and immature, because if you think Harry Potter promotes so-called 'satanism', go read Twilight and books of simmilar theme. (no offense)
THIS is why I'm an atheist.
3. *snorts* Harry was possessed by Voldemort, not obsessed. Also, the other point she missed was showing that "everyone has light and dark inside. What matters is the part you chose to act on."
4. When?
5. No evidence to back up that claim. I also think it's funny that a lot of the symbols Christians deem "demonic" are, usually, the complete opposite and symbols they turn around and use themselves.
6. 'Fairy Tales.' Fairy tales. Fairy tales are unrealistic. There isn't a cabin in the woods filled with nice dwarves who are waiting to help the pretty princess. Harry Potter is, as the author actually got right, not a fairy tale. It's a fantasy novel that depicts human nature. Again, going back to the "we've all got light and dark in us." Not one character was wholly good because there is not one human being who is or was wholly good.
7. Or, it made them realize (as they would have realized through life experiences) that not everything is black and white. There's areas of grey. Ironically, I learned that from studying Christianity.
8. Erm, the bad guys, the evil guys, lose. Evil doesn't reign. Evil dies.
9. Evidence . . .?
10. Again, evidence . . .?
I find it funny, possibly because I abandoned calling myself a Christian for these reasons, that it is so horrible to read a book about good conquering evil, about love being the strongest weapon, about sacrifice just because it has magic, but it's perfectly acceptable to worship a book that promotes homophobia and intolerance of people's differences and that has caused millions of people's deaths. And, technically, Jesus did magic.
These are just the most ridiculous arguments. The best of it is that the previous Pope was fine with the books. He understood that we're don't just learn about witchcraft and spirits-we accept that it's not real. We learn that love is the most important thing.
Perhaps if they spent less time picking up all the bad points of everything anyone ever does, and focus on the good things in the world, they could get somewhere. :L x
That woman is so FUNNY!!
Obsession,blood sacrifice,racism??
No ONE EVER MOCKED @ VOLDERMORT BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE A NOSE!!
The sacrifice thing. In Mythology, lots of sacrifices
were requested. Anyone said that the sacrifices totally
screwed mythology? NOPE! And those people who studied mythology
were a little smarter than Woman Who Corresponded with Cardinal Ratzinger
4. The human world becomes degraded, the world of witches and sorcerers becomes glorified.
This is the dumbest ever !! Only the EVIL thought this way.
The GOOD ones always protected Muggles, the GOOD one fought
for the Muggles, the GOOD ones killed the Evil ones and saved
the world.
3. While Harry Potter appears in the beginning to fight against evil, in fact the similarities between him and Voldemort, the arch-evil adversary in the tale, become more and more obvious. In volume five, Harry is being obsessed by Voldemort, which leads to symptoms of personality disintegration.
Well, FYI, no one is perfect! We all have the light and the darkness. And it's up to US to choose. Harry chose to block his mind, not to be related to Voldermort anymore, and yeah, sure,
Harry wants to be related to him, I mean he killed his parents, not a big deal! Sure Harry wants to be connected with Voldermort
7. A (young!) reader’s power of discernment of good and evil is blocked out through emotional manipulation and intellectual confusion.
I bet she meant incapable ^
8. It is an assault upon the young generation, seducing it playfully into a world of witchcraft and sorcery, filling the imagination of the young with images of a world in which evil reigns, from which there is no escape, on the contrary, it is portrayed as highly desirable.
ALL fought to destroy this evil, and during the path they
became stronger and tougher. Evil dies, the Good wins.
Has she even read the book?
10. Since through the Potter books faith in a loving God is systematically undermined, even destroyed in many young people, through false “values” and mockery of Judeo-Christian truth, the introduction of these books in schools is intolerant. Parents should refuse permission for their children to take part in Potter indoctrination for reasons of faith and conscience.
Who said so? Any proof?
And where are the fairy tales?!?! Is it by trying to defeat
the Darkest Wizard of all times, trying to save the world?
If it's that, HELL YEAH it's a fairy tale! If not, STFU!
Harry Potter is a realistic novel, who taught me to be brave,
to insist, and if I want to, anything is possible.
It taught me to love my friends, to support them and
being loyal.
Of course, it isn't perfect! There is no perfection.
But in my eyes, in the eyes of millions readers, Harry
Potter is so close to perfection, and that's all we need or ask for.
We all can speak like you did ^, but we prove what
we say, we don't talk in the air.
