If the emails Stephenie receives is anything compared to the complaints you see all around the internet, I don't blame Seth for reacting the way he does. Is any professional supposed to take "You made Bram Stoker cry in his grave!!" or "Stephen King doesn't like you!!" or "I'm misusing the word 'pedophile' so I can insult your characters!" or "You're a disgrace, Buffy should steak Edward!" at all seriously?
It's ridiculous.
I honestly don't understand why ANY artist of any medium should have to listen to random people bash their work like that, let alone take their whining to heart.

Authors should listen to criticize of their agent and publisher, and nobody else.
Because it does not even matter.

From the article I read, she was basically saying that she expected some criticism, but it still hurt, which I think is entirely reasonable.

I don't know anything about her brother Seth.

From the article I read, it seems as if both these Twilighters and Seth are at fault. As much as I hated Breaking Dawn, I thought that it was very rude for them to want to send that petition to Stephenie. Even though it's "well written" and "respectful" you're still spitting on someone else's work and telling them to rewrite it. Hearing someone not liking your work is one thing, but for your so-called "fans" them to tell you to rewrite it is just painful. However, Seth's reaction was very immature and unprofessional, espcially because the fan who sent him the e-mail in the first place (Heather) was pretty calm. Seth picks at the grammar mistakes in the petition and the petition itself. The part that got me was "although I got very bored and wasn't able to finish reading this 'petition'..." that was really rude of him to say.

She accepts it but people are just being jerks to her. I can understand why her brother is reacting that way.

She won't listen to any help other writers try to give her and she censors any comment that has anything bad to say about Twilight. I used the word 'censor' instead of 'deletes' because it IS a form of censorship.

Have any of you ever sat next to Stephenie while she reads her emails? It seems like you guys know everything about her life. More than her actual fans.

I love the way you always give the facts a glance. I envy the way you can then so admirably ignore them. I am amazed at the way a dedicated fan like you don't know as much about Meyer as potter-heads. I marvel at the way you admire Bella Swan.

I had know idea that knowing how a person react to criticism without ever witnessing it is a new scientific phenomenon. I'm surprised the media hasn't been all over this.

Oh, yes. And your assumptions are worth their weight in gold, I presume, judging by your pride in them. Actually, I find the examples to entwine with logic. If you truly think those phrases are written for the scientific effect I earn the priviledge to challenge your abilities. I must admit, I find the author of those phrases poetic to the extreme.

The first line artfully suggests that the person has abandoned her senses.
The second line supports the first and mocks the person in not using her ears or talents by placing them next to the dog.
'A bird flies without being taught' is saying the person deserts her natural instinct and needs to be told.
'And light travels faster than sound' sums the whole thing up as the most obvious in the world.
I'm surprised you didn't interpret the full meaning of this writing. I assure you there is no need to doubt my interpretation because I'm 100% certain it is correct.
Pardon me for asking this, but has your school curriculum ever taught you the 'art of researching'? Surely a single scan on the internet will reveal lift the veil that clouds your senses.
I am not taking a side on this discussion. I have a feeling Meyer indeed hates criticisms but I truly have no say because I do not indulge in her - mainly because I do not find a working housewife who daydreams about perfect boys very interesting.

How would anyone here know if Stephenie accepts criticism from her friends, family, publisher, or agent? How would anyone here know how well she accepts it?
No amount of "research" is going to help you or I know the answer. Perhaps stalking her friends and family would, but unless someone blogs about helping Stephenie along with her writing, there's no way for any of us to know this.

As I have repeated time after time, I had do not do Meyer research, therefore I had no idea Meyer received hate messages. But I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise.
Obviously we do not know about the happenings inside her families, and not once have I tried in vain to suggest otherwise. But all rumours have hidden truths. Why would the rumours of Meyer detesting criticisms start if there were no distinct evidences? Evidence fuels rumours despite how false they may be. Evidence is the lifeblood of spreading untruths.

Something being poetic changes nothing, I agree. But I cannot help but feel there is a certain logic to it. If you can prove and display your evidence in concluding Meyer is accepting of her mistakes, I will be more than happy to take your perspective to heart. I have a stubborn mind. I'd like some proof for your argument, please. A word of advice: losing your temper is equivalent to pouring oil on the fire. I am not here to fight.

Yes, the evidence people have for believing this is that Seth screens Stephenie's emails and deletes all the hate messages. I already mentioned that.

I'm not saying she accepts criticism well, i'm not going to say she doesn't wither. I'm not making an argument. If I was, I would have chosen an answer, and I wouldn't have said "I don't see how I'm supposed to know this."
I'm not going to go forth and make an assumption about her life based on how I feel about her books.

Well, this is the case whn someone getting famous so fast the hype backlash are too strong for her to handle maybe?
And I don't like her brother seth. Ignoring rude comment from non fan or even angry fan make sense. But not one where the fans make a lot of effort to create it one e-mail where they politely said what's on their mind.. :/
