Since we didn't see Ginny very much, there could be real reasons for her popularity.
Bella was sucked into a cool group as soon as she got out of her truck pretty much.

Bella became instantly popular because she was new in Forks. She wasn't nice, bubbly, or likable. Pretty boring, really.

In her first year, Ginny was often made fun of for having such a big crush on Harry. She was way too shy and was really quiet. Bella had boys all over her almost instantly.

Bella because she was, like some of you said, she was instantly popular. Ginny actually had to make friends and be nice to people to become popular and to earn respect.

Ginny was so rightfully popular. She was so ...friendly and ...open ...

That's how you get attention, girls. Not being yourself and letting it happen on its own, like Bella.

Ginny was popular most likely b/c of her outgoing, bold personality, and maybe b/c of her pretty hair.

At least Ginny has reasons for having so may friends. She was shown as popular more in her later years. She served in the DA, her brother's Harry Potter's best friend, and we really only see her when she's around Harry, for all we know she could be bright and outgoing when she isn't around him (haven't you ever acted nervous or weird around a person you like?).

I think that's how it should be. If you're going to be popular, it shouldn't be because you did something to become so. You shouldn't have to make out with guys in dark places go get attention. I think it's more respectful to be yourself.

And I sense Ginny's personality, which is coming from herself, everytime she appears, how she snaps at people, how she mocks people (Fleur) etc. That is herself.

So rather than been popular for your personality it should be for how you look? Ginny was popular because she was outgoing and funny people liked her for that. Bella was a shiny new toy that boys fancied, they obviously didn't fall for her personality as no one knew her.

I'm not a big fan of Ginny, but I don't think she was trying to hard to be popular. She was being herself and she had a nice personality and her brothers (mainly Fred and George) were popular at school. She was popular by association, more so after joining the DA and going out with Dean.

I didn't like how Bella got so popular so quickly. Sure it's a small school and people make friends with the newbies. Why didn't anyone try to befriend the Cullens? Just because they kept to themselves, that doesn't mean anything. Why didn't one person say 'Hey, want to come sit with us?' or something like that. And I saw somewhere online that people were upset with Bella that she was the newcomer who came into La Push and they welcomed her into their bonfires and storytelling. Those Quileute legends were supposed to be sacred and here she comes and is privileged to sit in on their stories. Yeah, not buying it. What makes her so special? Just like when Rosalie was mad that she found out they were vampires. It's okay because it's Bella. She's so popular and special that she gets all these supernatural things. Yeah, I know I went off point about the school thing, but I find Bella's popularity as a whole more annoying.

Bellas popularity is more understandable, I mean, she was new at school, and lost of people would probably reach out and try to befriend a new kid.

Ginny, however, was nothing. I mean, she was just a shy girl with a fangirl-type crush/obsession with Harry, and she never really showed much of a personality. She wasn't really shown or mentioned as being outstanding in many ways in the books.

I don't personally like any, but Bella was popular because Meyer wanted it. She didn't give a special reason, ok she was the new kid in school, but she was bland, had the attention span of a goldfish (except when it comes to Edward) and acted a bit (just a bit) bitchy to people who cared about her (Mike).

Ginny was friendly to everyone, but she wasn't a drama queen type, she defended her friends (Luna) and proved many times she was a great person and fun to be around. And looking from the reality spot, she was good-looking. Good-looking girls are unfortunately almost always popular, but for Ginny is was just an extra add, because I think she was mainly liked for the reasons above.

But, Bella ? Ok, she's a new student. But, like luv_warriorcatz said above there were new people at my school too, but my friends didn't pay attention at her :/

Ginny actually did stuff to be popular! she made friends by being nice, and shes curagius. BELLA on the other hand, just walked into school and became popular because she 'pretty'! that is NOT real popularity!

Ginny is also good in class. she's good in sports (quidditch, remember?) she's outspoken and she stands up for what she believes in. Go Ginny.
