I think its lightning shaped because voldemort attacked harrys family the scar came from his mothers প্রণয় and voldemort's powers and mixed them together to create the lightning bolt.
i think its the sign to denote power-strength and fierceness of a lightning. i mean come on all of us like that, who would be interested in other shapes? it makes harry আরো cool and makes him harry - different!!!!
