PROLOGUE: THE FAMILY
The five Potters made their way through the crowd at King's Cross. James, the eldest of the three young Potters, wheeled the trolley so it faced the barrier between platforms nine and ten. With a practiced air, he jogged the trolley straight at the barrier. In an instant, he was gone.
Mrs. Potter and Lily, youngest of the three, were next. They also vanished as soon as they reached the barrier. Mr. Potter led his youngest son, Albus, toward the barrier. It was Albus' first বছর at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, so he was a bit scared.
As they approached, Albus closed his eyes, each as green as a fresh pickled toad. When he opened them, he found himself standing on platform 9 3/4.
At that moment, there was one thing on the young Potter's mind. In a soft whisper, he addressed this problem to his father. The answer was not one he expected. Not in the least.
"Albus Severus, আপনি were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew."
"But just say--"
"--then Slytherin House will have gained an excellent student, won't it? It doesn't matter to us, Al. But if it matters to you, you'll be able to choose Gryffindor over Slytherin. The Sorting Hat takes your choice into account."
"Really?"
"It did for me." The young Potters had never really talked with their father about his past.
Just above his father's eyes, Albus could see a curiously shaped scar, just like a bolt of lightening.
CHAPTER 1: SORTING
The older Potters and Weasleys had left Albus to confront a wild-looking man. He could hear the man's shouts and followed the sound.
"Firs' years! Firs' years over here!"
Albus cautiously approached the man. The man did not hesitate to address him.
"Yeh look jest like yer dad."
"You know my dad?"
"Course I do. He had that same look on his face when he firs' came. Name's Rubeus Hagrid, Keeper of Keys and Grounds."
Hagrid led the first years to a fleet of boats waiting for them.
The boats, once everyone was in, moved off without anyone rowing. It was quite foggy over the lake. After a মিনিট অথবা so, the mist cleared, giving Albus his first glimpse of Hogwarts.
It was a massive castle, with turrets and towers.
Once out of the boats, Hagrid led them up to the front door. Almost at once, a stern witch emerged. She led them into the castle.
Inside the front door was a massive entrance hall. The witch led them into a large room filled with the other students. Albus couldn't find his siblings and cousins, which discouraged him.
Up at the High Table, Albus could only recognize one of the teachers, the Herbology teacher, Professor Longbottom.
The stern witch placed an old hat on a মল in front of them. Under the watchful eyes of the rest of the school, she began পাঠ করা off names. Each time a student's name was called, he অথবা she sat on the মল and put on the hat. The hat then shouted where each student belonged.
Finally, Albus' name was called. There were a few whispers, but Albus ignored them.
Once the Sorting Hat was on his head, he could hear it mutter in his ear as it deliberated.
"You're much like your father. Courage, talent, plenty of that. And আপনি want to prove yourself. Interesting. Where to put you? I think I know. আপনি belong in GRYFFINDOR!"
