Some fanfictions are too ridiculous, especially the ones about Snape/Hermione or Voldemort/Hermione etc. but some are quite interesting. Mainly the ones that keep most/all couples the same.

There are some people out there who are great at writing fanfics, but I certainly never consider any of them to be more canon than what actually is canon. I don't like fanfiction that contradicts the canon either.

I often enjoy fanfics that are written in a "this didn't really happen but what if it did?" angle though.

BlackHound picked No. Canon is canon:
Canon is what is created by the author. This trumps everything.

Fanon is what is created by the fans (and some people who aren't really fans but want to get their 2 knuts in.)

Fanon can not, in any way, be canon, no matter how good some of us think it is, or how badly we wish it were true. I don't have a problem with fics that are clearly labeled Alternate Universe contradicting canon, because it's just that, an alternate universe, and as long as they treat the characters with respect, I'm alright with it, for the most part. I do have a problem with some fanon details being taken as canon, and then some folks insist on arguing to the point of becoming insulting and downright vulgar when someone attempts to show them the details are wrong. It's easy enough to check your information; there are several lexicons out there readily available that also provide lists of canon sources, and when Pottermore opens, we'll have a virtual Master Resource.

LadyNottingham picked No. Canon is canon:
Canon is canon. End of the story. Otherwise it would not be canon.

Though certain facts in fanon would be great to have in canon (like for example Severus being Draco's godfather - no evidence but it would be nice and fitting indeed). I love writing Alternate Universe but I'm aware that this is not the reality created by the author, like BlackHound said. Let's respect the author, we use her universe and characters to play with only. Once done, we put the toys back onto the shelf nicely.

You're right of course, yet sometimes AU is so much better than canon and all you can do is wish for it to be the 'canon universe'.

I agree with BlackHound and LadyNottingham. Frankly I don't really understand why people call themselves fans if they want to change a bunch of stuff. Not that I'm trying to insult anyone or say that you aren't real fans. I just don't get it.

This idea doesn't make any sense to me. You can prefer certain aspects of fanon, but thinking it's more canon than actual canon? It can't happen. The fact that something is in the books or movies, or has been revealed by the author, is what makes it canon.

^Agreed...You can love fanfiction (I do) but how can it be "more canon" than the books? The books are what define and establish canon.
