I ship Jon/Dany… well, simply put, I ship them because I think they’d be good together. Their narrative paths and personal development are leading them to be to strong, independent, powerful people, who will obviously have a large impact on the future of the Seven Kingdoms, and I think as a couple they would work well together.
You’ve probably heard/read that Sansa and Arya are called “two sides of the same coin”. This is because their experiences, journeys and reactions parallel one another in a beautiful way, and আপনি can’t understand one fully without taking in another.
This is how I see Jon and Dany. If you’ll allow me some leniency here with my symbolism, I’ll explain it to আপনি this way: if Arya and Sansa are two sides of the same coin, and together make up one whole, Jon and Dany are mirror প্রতিমূর্তি of one another - আপনি can look at one and see them completely, but when আপনি take them in together আপনি begin to see them in a whole new light.
Dany and Jon’s lives parallel one another in many ways. They both grow up with a family (Jon with the Starks and Dany with Viserys), and yet they are both isolated from completely belonging to the unit, and this causes them a great deal of pain in their formative years. At the narrative’s beginning they are both leaving the familiarity of their family dynamic to venture into uncharted waters - Jon with the Night’s Watch and Dany with Drogo/the Dothraki.
They’re both quite young, and they don’t really know the specifics of who they are yet; that’s something they grow into throughout the course of the book, with Jon finding his place among the Night’s Watch (the true family he never had) and Dany becoming enveloped into the Dothraki (the culture and connection to a history she has always felt she lacked). Of course, the process isn’t as smooth as that, and they both face complications in their new homes. But it’s not simply that their stories are similar, অথবা that these things are happening around them, but the fact that they react in such an analogous way that makes me ship them.
Ok, let’s look at the tv series. Another thing that makes me ship these two so much is that their stories are being filmed to conincide. It’s often that in an episode Jon’s segment with direct precede অথবা follow Dany’s - it’s like they want us to think of one alongside the other. This explains what I mean - and leads me to my পরবর্তি point.
The best example I can think of Jon/Dany and their similarities is in episode 4. In this episode Jon’s story revolves around the arrival of Samwell to the Night’s Watch, his protection of Sam, and his eventual defiance against their instructor. The episode is meant to প্রদর্শনী that Jon may be unhappy with his position at the Wall, and he may be struggling with himself, but he holds a very definite set of values, and uses his position to defend those who need his help.
Dany showcases a similar kindness when Viserys confronts her after manhandling one of her servants. She pretty much schools Viserys, প্রদর্শিত হচ্ছে a strength to her character that she’s always had, but not yet enforced, and it’s a defining moment both within the প্রদর্শনী and to the responder: this is who Dany is. And she is strong.
Then, of course, is their “rebirths” - Jon is frequently told দ্বারা those around him that his old life is “dead”, and that the Night’s Watch is his family now, but his transformation is not solidified until he stops himself from joining Robb and fully accepts his place among the Night Watch. Dany also says her farewells to her life with Drogo, and in doing completes her transformation into the last dragon.
Dany and Jon are also connected via the Mormonts, and this has always seemed আরো than a coincidence to me. Jon is প্রদত্ত the Valyrian sword meant for Jorah; in the same episode Jorah speaks to Dany of his father, the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Add to this that Aemon Targaryen is a member of the Night’s Watch, and tells his story to Jon. There’s also a জনপ্রিয় theory about Jon’s parentage that could connect the two.
I like the thought that there are these two people, who have probably never heard of one another, living worlds away but still facing the same trials, and become two people so alike that it seems simple for me to ship them. I would add to this that both have famililars in the dragons/Jon’s direwolf, but I think that they serve different purposes within the novels, and don’t particularly pertain to Jon/Dany in a significant way.
Of course, when they meet they could have a dynamic that doesn’t resonate with me, অথবা could menan little to one another, and so I won’t ship them - but I’m pretty good at taking a literary hint, and I have a very strong feeling that these two are going to find their lives colliding আরো than once.
Also, dude. Think of how crazy photogenic they would be.
