End of Chapter 14
"What is your problem!?" I yelled at Sam and the rest of them, my entire body shaking because I was sick of everyone and everything...I just wanted to be alone.
"Jacob," Sam ব্যক্ত as he stepped closer to me, his tone all bossy again. "Jacob calm down, your father can't handle this now...your family needs you."
"Don't আপনি tell me what my family needs." I threatened. "You have no right."
"Take him back to the church. We'll meet আপনি after." Sam ব্যক্ত as he turned, Paul and Jared following right behind him...and just as Sam entered the woods I noticed that he was shaking from his head to toes before he...disappeared into the woods.
"He's such a jerk!" I ব্যক্ত as I turned and looked at Embry.
"You don't understand him Jacob...and God willing আপনি never will...or maybe আপনি will." Embry ব্যক্ত as he shrugged.
"Whatever Embry, go meet your new friends." I spit at him, my temper boiling over because I was so sick of everyone. "I'll go to the church alone." I didn't give him the chance to say anything, I just turned and ran back into the woods..ignoring him as he yelled after me.
Chapter 15
I slowed myself as I got to the edge of the forest, walking slowly walking out onto the রাস্তা that would lead to the church. I looked down, attempting to remove some of the ঘাস and debris that clung to my clothes. I stopped at the driveway to the church, my mind racing as I thought of the finality of what was about to happen. I saw a large group of people who were standing in a semi-circle a few of them looking up and noticing me standing where I was. I heard a deep voice say something and they parted, my father rolling out of the middle.
"Jacob." He ব্যক্ত as he got closer. "Where were you?"
"I had to get away, there were too many people around, hovering. I went out to the woods."
"You went looking for...it didn't you?" My father asked softly. "We'll discuss this later."
He turned his chair around quickly, pausing as he waited for me to grab the handles on his chair and push him up to the church. I sighed as I grabbed them, pushing him up to where the rest of the family was waiting for us. My sisters both came over and hugged me tightly, tears filling both their eyes.
"We're ready to begin." The minister ব্যক্ত as he walked over and stood পরবর্তি to my fathers chair.
My father took a deep breath, his entire body shaking slightly. I took a breath as well, not sure how to prepare myself but doing what seemed to make sense. My sisters came up and stood পরবর্তি to us, all four of us moving almost as one as we made our way into the church.
I was surprised to see how many people were crammed inside the tiny church. I noticed Quil and his family, my fathers friend Charlie Swan, the tribal elders and many other faces that belonged to our family. I did my best to ignore them all, pushing my father to the front of the church where a pew was being held for us.
I parked my fathers chair and sat between my sisters, each of them taking one of my hands into their own. I took a few deep breaths and focused on the front as I heard the back doors open and the organist began playing a haunting song. I heard everyone turn including my sisters, but I couldn't turn..I couldn't watch them carry my mother into the church. I squeezed my eyes shut as they walked past our pew, my sisters both making small sobbing sounds. I wanted to run, wanted to get away but new I couldn't do that, that my family needed me and I would not leave them when they needed me.
"Jacob?" My father ব্যক্ত softly.
I pried my eyes open and looked at him, he smiled slightly as he reached over and held his hand out for mine. Rebecca let go of my hand so I could grab my fathers hand, he smiled as he squeezed my hand and smiled as much as he could.
I took a breath as the minister began his sermon, talking about the bond mothers have with their children and the influence they have over others lives. I paid attention for a while but found myself staring at the casket that sat at the front of the church, the lid was open which I hadn't noticed until now. I didn't want to look but couldn't help myself from staring at my mom.
