Why, because I don't think it was sincere. I'll post something that I stumbled across on tumblr, as it sums up my attitude towards the scene, and it's pretty much what made me question his intentions. The post was made by heartsways; So in this scene, no, I don’t think that Gold was helping Henry out of the goodness of his own heart. And it was Regina who said that everything comes with a price when it comes from Gold - this isn’t news, is it? We’ve heard this mantra repeated throughout the show since it began. Because it’s all about the deal. When Cinderella was trying to get out of her deal with Rumple, she was told that he simply couldn’t resist making a deal and if anything, one of Rumple’s driving motivations is that nothing is free. Nothing is innocent and nothing is free. Taking that to its natural conclusion, there’s very little evidence to suggest that Gold/Rumple could or WOULD do anything that didn’t have some sort of caveat attached. And I wouldn't be surprised if helping Henry is a bargaining chip he’s putting into play that will become evident somewhere along the line.

^yes but isn't he trying to change? and if he likes henry or feels some sort of debt to him then maybe that's why.

I think Rumpel's love for children is adorable! <3 He's always been so nice to Henry.

and about this particular scene I loved gina's face when Mr. Gold said: "A home visit? You can't afford me!" :D LOL!!

it was very sweet of him to come in the middle of the night and help Henry!

I agree with Zanhar1 I question his sincerity. Personally it didn't come of as "sweet".

It’s true that you cant never be totally sure what he’s up to, but I think he was being sincere and he is really trying to change. I also think that Henry reminds him a little of Baelfire since he’s about the same age as Baelfire was in fairytale land and maybe that’s the reason he’s being nice.

I believe it was sincere. I think it was his fatherly instinct kicking in. On some occasions you really see his humanity. This was one of those occasions.

@opalrose I'm not certain of his redemption yet either. Correct me if I'm wrong; he never actually said he wanted to change. He may have implied it but I am waiting for him to vocally confirm it or him to do something undeniably good, with no side intentions or things done to give him the advantage.

I can see him liking Henry, but I son't see how he'd be indebted to him.

Like I said, just drop it. It's done, this is done, enough, I give up, etc.

There's a part of me that wants to believe he did this because it was the right thing to do, and he's trying to change. It's also possible that he has a soft spot for Henry particularly, because he's so close to the age Bay way when he left, and they have a lot in common.

But there's a little part of me that is hesitant to believe that that is what this is. Rumple is pretty much fighting his own nature right now (even if it's psychosomatic), and he hasn't had a lot of time to suddenly change everything. I think he's still going to get something out of this, even if it's not immediate or direct.

I think it's not wrong to help somebody and to help yourself at the same time.

yes, for me. I think it's better to help yourself while helping others, than to help yourself by destroying other people's life and happiness. It's how I feel. So yeah, ok :)

I think it's pretty clear by now that he did it to get Emma and Snow back for his own purposes. He knew Henry would be able to talk to Aurora, right? He knew she would be there.
