series four graces our screens, and you know what that means – a lot of gratuitous (male) toplessness.

To whet viewers\' appetites, a brand new image from the upcoming series of the windswept BBC drama has been released, featuring a very brooding Aidan Turner.

(And by \'brooding\', we here of course mean \'brooding without a shirt on\'.)

The photo has been picked up by news outlets pretty much everywhere, with Ross Poldark gracing the front page of several of today\'s (June 1) newspapers – but while some fans were delighted, not everyone is keen on it.

Quicker than you can say \'double standards\', some people have responded to the media\'s coverage of Turner\'s bare chest with frustration, arguing that the same treatment wouldn\'t be given to his female co-stars.

\'s observation on Twitter, one user wrote: "Do you do that when scantily clad women appear in the newspapers? #WorksBothWays", with others accusing the press of "double standards".

"Young people including men are dealing with real body image issues in no small part due to the pressure they face by images like this being normalised", another reader commented.

Ross Poldark\'s pecs aside, Eleanor Tomlinson – who plays Demelza – recently spoke to Digital Spy about her character\'s arc in the new series.

"She realises what she\'s got and she\'s not interested in a life of cheating or affairs," she said.

"So it\'s them taking their relationship on, and recovering from the pain they have caused each other and rebuilding their lives together. They find the heartbeat of their relationship."
