Really strange predicament here: How do আপনি not sound cold when comforting somebody about the death of a pet আপনি didn't get along with... when the pet is a goat

I'm pretty sure no one else has expierence in this, but what the heck I need help. My mom came in this evening crying because she'd found her pet goat dead, the goat and I haven't been on the best of terms lately because I found him kind of stinky yet I do feel bad for my mother.
