What is the difference between awesome and cool?

I thought they were synonyms of each other...but apparently not O.o alot of people are saying cool is a আরো minor word for awesome is that true?

^I'm too lazy, to check teh dictionary it means I'd have to turn around and extend my arms, then look for it.
