হাঃ হাঃ হাঃ I speak Greek and never even made the connection that eleftherios = eleftheria = freedom (doh!). Come to think of it, there's a lot of Greek names like that... Eleni (peace), Zoe (life), Vasili (king), Niki (victory) and undoubtedly the worst, Parthena (literally, 'virgin') xD
My Greek name, from which my English name is derived, is actually Turkish in origin (did that make sense?). It's 'Sultana', meaning the wife of a sultan. Being so similar to the english word for a dried up grape, আপনি can see why my parents made the decision to give me an alternative english name xD
My surname is also Turkish in origin (there's a trend here somewhere, isn't there) related to weaving, apparently because some long-forgotten ancestors in Asia Minor were village tailors. So there ya go.
