Three hundred million turkeys are killed in the U.S. each year, many for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Baby turkeys are hatched in large incubators.
hey will never see their mothers. Here, they huddle around a heat lamp for warmth.
After only a few weeks, turkeys are moved to large, windowless sheds which they share with thousands of other turkeys.
They’ll all spend the rest of their lives there.
At many farms, workers can treat birds however they wish... And they do.
o keep turkeys from killing each other, parts of their toes and beaks are cut off—without painkillers.
Turkeys are bred, drugged, and genetically manipulated to grow as large as possible as quickly as possible.
n 1970, the average turkey raised for meat weighed 17 pounds. Today, turkeys average 28 pounds.
ecause of this artificial manipulation, turkeys’ legs often break beneath them.
At 5 to 6 months old, turkeys are sent to the slaughterhouse. In the wild, they can live to be 10 years old.
The trucks that take them to slaughter sometimes crash.
When that happens, the turkeys who aren’t already dead are loaded onto another truck.
When they get to the slaughterhouse, turkeys are hung upside down by their legs, which often break during the process.
Then their heads are dunked into electrified water before their throats are slit.
Then they are dunked in scalding-hot water to defeather them.
Many turkeys aren’t stunned properly and are scalded to death.

If you like turkeys then don't support animal cruelty. Don't eat them.

PlayingWithFire - That is terrible! How could you eat such a beautiful and intelligent creature? It is like eating a dog!

@ITF- They may be beautiful and intelligent (If trained correctly) but that doesn't change the fact that people find these creatures delicious. Besides, we eat them because it's part of our nutrients and it's the main source of vitamin B2, a vitamin that is very important to our health.

ITF picked Yes:
-SkySplitter- No, people eat them because they like how they taste. (but there is vegetarian fake turkey if you like turkey) You can get vitamin B2 from enriched or fortified cereals and grains, dark greens (such as asparagus, broccoli, spinach and turnip greens), buckwheat, Almonds, Pistachio, Pine Nuts and Cashew Nuts, Mushrooms, Sesame Seeds, Chia Seeds and Pumpkin & Squash Seeds, Beet Greens, , Drumstick Leaves, Collard Greens, Dandelion Greens, and Chinese Broccoli, etc. There are many people that don't eat animals and they are healthier then people that do.

And training is not required for a turkey to be intelligent. They can easily teach themselves what they need to know.

@ITF- I mentioned that people like how they taste. And I've read about these other sources of B2. I don't eat meat that often, because I care about animals as much as I care about my own body, that's why I'm aiming to be a veterinarian. But meat has a lot of nutrition and large amounts of vitamin B12, B3, B6, Iron, Zinc, Selenium and tons of more vitamins that are good for our health. And people that eat animals don't eat animals the whole entire time, they also eat sugary food, pizza, and tons of other junk foods, while most vegetarians choose to keep a healthy life style and avoid junk foods.

I know that training is not required, but it helps. I know that because my cat was never taught anything from my family but he figured out things on his own.

BlondLionEzel - It is not "yum" that a animal has to suffer for you for Thanksgiving. It is terrible! Why don't you skip eating turkeys this year and give the turkeys something to be thankful for?
