Modern horror is frick show. They're just pointless jump-scares which won't frighten anyone.

I like both for different reasons. While the mainstream ones I defiantly agree are full of cheap jump scares but occasionally I'll fine one that is just crazy good imo. They don't rely on jump scares. The Void 2016 is my best example it is so lovcraftian and ambiguously terrifying. Annihilation (2018) is another great one. It's jarring and ambiguously horrifying. VHS2 is another one that I really enjoyed it's from 2013. Not as recent but still more modern. Honestly VHS2 is probably one of the best horrors I've seen in a while and I highly recommend it. And, of course, It was incredible.

@zanhar Ah I see. I've seen some good old Asian horror movies and have only seen the mainstream ones in Modern horror. I never really cared to dig deeper because I don't care much for horror genre but what you suggested sounds interesting.

I love Asian horrors, they are some of my favorites. I also highly recommend Spanish horror movies. Veronica (2017) is another really good ones. Like VHS2 it got a lot of negative reviews but I avidly disagree with that. It's spooky and leaves things to the imagination. I feel like the horror movies that leave things to the imagination are the ones that creep me out the most.

That makes sense lol. I adore horror movies and actively seek them out. Honestly if you want good horror with less jumpscare, avoid the mainstream (granted I do love the Conjuring franchise). In general, I feel like the most quality stuff is less mainstream and more indie. Some of the best films are indie. The Void is one of those; it was crowdfunded and the budget was really low for a movie ($82,510) and they still made something uniquely scary. Tbh I feel like the reason that indie horror is so good is because it has such a low budget that they really have to get creative (something Hollywood is really lacking these days) and make the most of what they have.

So yeah, definitely 100% recommend The Void if you ever get the time.

^I searched it and it has caught my attention. It may have low rating but I like what I saw so far in the trailer and other videos. Indeed. Indie films are far more creative than mainstream Hollywood and the fact that it is a Cosmic Horror...wow. A very difficult genre to come across. I'll try to watch it next weekend tho I know I won't be able to function normally after that xD

Horror movies don't scare me.

I watch them for comedy purpose.
