My problem: I finish my school in June and on the 28th is my prom. My mom's best friend celebrates her 40th birhtday on the same day. She has no clue where to go because her friend asked her a long while ago when my date was unknown so she said yes to her friend. My prom is only once in my life and I want to study afterthen, so it would be nice to have this night with my mom.
Prom vs. Birthday, where would you go in this situation?

Well, if it was my MOTHER's 40th birthday I would definitely choose it, but if it's just her friend I think you should go to the prom. There will be many frieands' brithdays, but that prom is once in a lifetime. It's your mother's friend, not yours.

Hmmm... isn't that her choice, not yours? Did you ask her where she wants to go? I think it's important for you to go to the prom, but for her not so much. Did her friend say anything about it?

Yes it is her. But she doesnt know :/ for me it would be okay if she will go to her friend because otherwise she would be sad, but she want to go to the prom, too, because it is an important step in the life of her daughter... all the parents of the students are coming to the prom with their kids, so i would be the only one alone, that is sth she doesnt want... so, bestfriend's bday or prom is her problem, both have con and pro...

Well if all parents will be with their kids, then she should go with you. Maybe she can celebrate friend's birthday the day before or the day after it? Or maybe some small birthday celebration during the day and in the evening go to the prom with you (I assume that the prom will be in the evening)?

Yeah right, it is about the same time, her friend rent a big room for like 40 to 50 people, it is also very important... wicked situation ;)

Well I didn't mean brthday celebration with everyone, but just for 2 of them before the big celebration for everyone. I don't want to be rude or something, but...
She can be the best friend in the world, but still she's just a friend, but YOU are her CHILD and in my opinion YOU should be in the first place in this situation. At least that's what my mother would do and what I would do for my child if I had one. Child, family comes frist, then friends.

That isnt rude, that is cute :) my mom also says that she comes to me, but it makes her sad, because her bf will be sad or mad. i dont want it to be a bad evening for her, that she would wish she would be somewhere else instead. :/ but thanks for your comments, i was interested in what other people think <3

I hope you will have great prom. What colour of dress did you choose?

Maybe you can discuss this with your mother and see if you can work out a plan. She may help you try to attend both.

@CornChips: I said that we can begin the evening on the prom and end it on the bday, my mom thinks about it ;) she will come to my prom but it would be great if both works out :)
