What do you think Severus would have said? From the moment he was born, with the exception of his time with lily, til the moment he died, he suffered greatly. As a child he had an abusive father, as a student, he was a victim of constant bullying, as an adult, he made a grave mistake which he deeply regreted.
Do you know why he protected Lily's son? Because he loved her too much and that he felt guilty. Every moment he was living he was blaming himself for telling Voldemort the prophecy, for becoming a deatheater. Before Lily died, he was brokenhearted but still wanted to live. After Lily died, he wanted to die. But he lived because Dumbledore said he had to protect harry for Lily...for Lily. After Dumbledore died, he lost the only other person he trusted apart from Lily; and not only that, he killed that person. Life was a whole new realm of the cruciatus curse for him. But still he lived. Why? For Hogwarts' students, for Lily, for Dumbledore, for Harry, for the defeat of Voldemort, for world peace. All the while he wanted to die, he pushed on. And finally...he gets the escape. The way he died was terrible but I think he thought there was no point living anymore since he'd done all he could. Severus Tobias Snape wanted an escape - an escape through death.
I'm sad about his death too - I cried over ten times after watching 'the prince's tale' but I was happy that he finally didn't have to suffer anymore.
And by the way, nowhere in any canon material does his name appear as "Severus Tobias Snape".
and don't you think what I've written is nothing beyond reason? Besides, I think it is perfectly reasonable - unless you think otherwise? I'd be happy to hear what you have to say
I was, and still, known in my school as 'the ultimate Severus Snape lover', so I don't love him any less than you do - I am only thinking about how he might have felt about the whole situation.
I also disagree that he wanted to die. He might have said it at the time he found out about Lily's death, but that is understandable as he was young and overwhelmed at the time. By the time of DH I'm sure he'd have been over his suicidal feelings. I don't think he'd ever forgive himself over his part in Lily's death, but he'd be able to move on.
As to him having no friends, there is cannon evidence that Snape did make friends. Charity Burbage said they were friends, Dumbledore was Snape's friend, so he was able to forge new friendships with others. It stands to reason he' d be able to do it again.
Is it selfish for us to wish away the murder of a character we love, before all they worked for came to fruition? I don' think so. Severus was not a cripple in constant pain on life support, with nothing left to contribute and with nothing to look forward to in life. So I think it is a lot less selfish for those who like him to wish for him to live and move on and finally enjoy the life that he deserved.
As far as having friends, I don't think it's an issue of him not having many. Being an introverted, deeply private person, I'd think he'd be content having only a few really trust-worthy friends. I have no doubts that he would be able to find those kindred spirits and shape a happier life for himself.
We'll never know, we'll never know what's going on in one's mind. Maybe he did not know himself. There's that Slytherin self-preservation trait.
But there was the Unbreakable Vow too : if Severus had explained to Voldemort he was not the master of the Elder Wand, he would have to explain who was then. That would have led to Draco. Remember that Severus had sworn on his life to keep Draco out of harm's way. Either he would have died.
Moreover, Severus knew that if he let Voldemort kill him, he would lure him onto a false trail. A surefire way to ensure final victory, as we all know who the true master of the Elder Wand was.
I don't know. I would have wanted him to live - I can't kill him in my fanfics. But once again, we are not in his shoes. As much as it saddens me a lot that he died (and in a such gruesome fashion), I cannot help thinking he greeted death like an old friend.
-even for my love for this character I just want to smack him and say 'wake-up! There is more to life than sulking and crying over a woman who did not even care if you lived or died. Well... If you never became a death eater, what difference does it make? If you lived like a muggle she still would not care because of her 'pride' towards the arrogant James!' (*Snape smacks me across the face*) "SHUT UP!"
We can go on and on and he will NEVER forget the past, past makes you who you are, but hell, just to let that man wake up and know she did not love him.
Of Course In my eyes I don't want him to die...(Hand on heart)
sleeves, who cannot control their emotions, who wallow in sad
memories and allow themselves to be provoked so easily – weak
people, in other words - ' would want death as an escape, but Severus was not one of them.
It's just my thoughts.I think only Severus himself could answer the question, and us fans?To each their own.
I love Snape <3 <3
