I was wondering about something in the movie, a big *SPOILER* for those who haven't seen the movie yet.

My own opinion is that they MADE him/Teddy believe that he is sick.
Chuck was with the other guys in the plan all the time.

আপনি know what that lady in the cave said: "If আপনি eat some of their খাবার it will give আপনি hallucinations... They will take things from your past and use it against you." <--- I think they tried to make Daniel/Teddy think that HE killed his wife, that HE had children, that HE was that pyromanic-dude...

And the lady in the cave's name? It was the same as one of the patients, and I think they tried making HER believe that she was sick too. দ্বারা saying that: "What? ... That lady never excited. It is YOUR name."

The people working there knew how to "play the game" since they had done it many times before with different peoples.
They cleared the light-house so they could play the prank on Teddy.
The things he ate from there made his body feeling weird + he had hallucinations form "the past" অথবা what they made him believe was the past.

BECAUSE! IN the end, Teddy ends up believing in their stories, he plays along the পরবর্তি দিন দ্বারা অভিনয় like it IS all starting over and over again.
After that, Chuck gives the "leader" a sign that he's into the lie, so they can অর্থহীন with his brain...

Because in the VERY END আপনি get to see the needle, that the lady in the cave told him about.

Also... Remember we saw him sailing in the start. They told him he had been there for 2 years, and I really don't think that it was a hallucination.

And when the lady in the cave asked him if he trusted Chuck. And he ব্যক্ত "yes" অথবা something like that. And in the end when she says: "You have no friends" - I really believe that Chuck was playing along with the others.

I just saw this last night, the idea that i got from it was that andrew WAS sick and at the end he was better, but knowing that he would not relaps again he dicided that being prtaly brain dead would be better than knowing what he did. so he acted like he was sick again to make them do the operation, that is why he ব্যক্ত that the island made him wonder if it was better to live as a monster অথবা die a hero. অথবা at least that is what i got from it.

Ok, the answer is that he IS crazy. The whole point of the movie is to প্রশ্ন reality, and what the definition of "crazy" actually is. Some evidence:
- He has withdrawls from being off his medication, which is what causes him to hallucianate.

- They take his gun away.
- The don't give him access to patient records.

Sooo basically...in the end of the movie I believe that Andrew (Teddy) is fully aware and sane. The one line "I'd rather die a good man than live as a monster" proves it...Andrew wanted to die. He couldn't accept the fact and realization what he had done so instead he wanted to die as a "good man", aka Teddy. Hope this clears things up! ^^

Your first friend was right, remeber when "Chuck" looked at the doctors and the gaurd and nodded? He was saying that Andrew/Teddy was back to his old ways thinking that he was a marshall. So, at the end they take him to the lighthouse and kill him, because he was never cured.

the point is that is an open ended ending and yo decide but i went with the idea that he really was sick but there really isnt a "real" ending.
But in the end he does say, "is it better to live a monster অথবা die a good man?" then he goes to be executed. that leads in the direction of the idea that he is insane but then also if আপনি really anylize it আপনি could say he just might know he'll never get off the island and just went along with it to end his life.
its really complicated, but maybe now it makes a little আরো sense now :)

Andrew was faking his regression. He was aware of who he was and what he had done, and he didn't want to live with remembering it. The last line he says to "Chuck" demonstrates that. "Chuck, after all this I been thinking: Is it better to live a monster, অথবা die a good man?" That was his way of telling his therapist that he wanted to be lobotomized.

This movie is about the end of wwII and a project called "project Paperclip" A REAL PROJECT which brought about something called MK ULTRA which was a mind control program NAZI SS scientists were working on - trying to build the perfect soldier /assassin and that after performing what ever act they would have no memory of it. There are major hints to this throughout the movie I think Teddy was a victim of MK ultra - and "remembered" some of his assignment. This is what they were trying to do..."get teddy's programming back on track" BECAUSE HE WAS DANGEROUS - he was an important asset. just for the record, these scientists did actually come to the usa via the oss and worked in hospitals/ schools/ prisons/ and mental hospitals.
