Obviously Silent Hill 2. If you ask me, SH2 had the most eery atmosphere, best developed characters and one of the most epic 'farewell, dear character moments' I've seen in a video game. (SPOILERS!!) Namely the death of Angela. (SPOILERS END)

Believe it or not, but Silent Hill: Downpour is also amongst my favourites. It's the best horror game in years in terms of true fright and atmosphere. Classic Silent Hill-esque disorientating scenes and mindf*ck moments, and Murphy Pendleton is without a doubt the best Silent Hill protagonist yet.

[EDIT] I think Silent Hill 3 is a bit overrated. Even though it's probably the deepest SH in the series, I feel as if it became more of a gorefest than true scares. And SH: Homecoming is just a mess. It's a good thing the awesome protagonist Alex Shepherd is there, otherwise the game would have been horrible.

It's a tie between 2,3 and 4.

Silent Hill 3 will remain even to this day as my favorite Silent Hill game in the series.I hate how alot of people are saying that SH2 is the best,most favorite,etc etc when SH2 wasn't really a true follow-up to the first in many ways.

Yes SH2 was a good game.It was scary,had good yet creepy atmosphere,etc,but the reason why it's not exactly my most favorite is cuz again it wasn't a true follow-up to SH1.Where as SH3 WAS a direct follow-up to SH1 which is why it's still my absolute favorite game in the series.

Hell even the main character is proof enough that it was a true sequel to SH1.Not only was the protagonist a female,but she was also the reincarnation of Alessa and Cheryl,now going by the name Heather to protect her from The Order prior to the events in SH3.

I can go at it all day as to why SH3 is my favorite in the series,but it'd be too long.I also like Downpour though that game has become another favorite Silent Hill game for me besides SH3 and Origins.
