Jack was sick and hearth medecine couldn't save him. So Sam convinced him to become a Tok'ra host (temporary) : Tock'ra had a symbiote with important information who's host was dying, and they couldn't find a new one. So Jack became a Tok'ra, the symbiote cured him and had to stay with the Tock'ra until they find another host for the symbiote (even if as আপনি can see it in "abyss" he didn't really stay with them and actually went to Baal)
