Michael and Lucifer were brothers, Lucifer went down the wrong path and Michael had to stop him...it's like the story of Dean and Sam, only that they are humans..
if you know the lore, Michael was promoted and became an archangel after he kicked Lucifer out..

I don't no much about religion so i didn't know what kind of connection Michael and Lucifer had.. but now reading what you said, yea maybe it can be something like that with Dean and Sam that would mean that if Dean kicked Sam he would be an archangel! =O

The fact that Sam and Dean are brothers, and Sam went down the wrong path is similar, but I think it ends there. Lucifer rebelled for his own purpose, to challenge God himself and reign in Heaven. Sam chose the path he did out of a desire to do some good (even though he started off wanting revenge). Sam has also repented and seen his mistake; Lucifer never did.
Dean and Sam may yet have to fight each other, but I hope it never comes to that, and I REALLY don't like the idea of Dean being "promoted" - I don't think that will happen because he won't willingly obey the angels. :))

I don't really know the story of Lucifer and Michael but from what you guys have said, it does sound similar...
