Chapter 7
The Assembly, The Note, and the Truth (sorta)
Another দিন of school, another দিন with Hanalei. Yep, tragic. I dragged myself to the bus, were Dominic waved to me. I said, “Hi, Donnie.” and plopped down পরবর্তি to Hanalei. I picked up my book, The Lovely Bones. I liked the struggle for Susie to go to Heaven, and how she helps her family cope. “Have আপনি seen the movie?” Hanalei suddenly asked. “Huh?” I said. I was so হারিয়ে গেছে in the book I didn’t understand what she meant. “The movie. For ‘The Lovely Bones’ Seen it?” Hanalei asked. “Oh, yeah, but the book is way better. I like when…” and we blabbed about the book and movie, then the loudspeaker crackled to life. “Attention students,” That voice sounds familiar. “We will be holding an assembly in five minutes, so I need all of আপনি 7th graders to প্রতিবেদন to the gym.”
Hanalei and I walked to the gym and I saw Genn and LeShequa leaning against the wall. That’s it! I don’t understand why আপনি are mad!” I yelled. Genn pulled out a picture. It was of her hitting her brother. I was there that day. They were just play wrestling! Somebody edited it to make it look like she was trying to beat him up. “These are all over the school!” LeShequa yelled. Then a man in his 60’s come out and ব্যক্ত “Good morning, kids! I am your knew principle, Chris McLean! It’s going to be an exciting year! Because of yesterdays’ tests, I can now separate আপনি into groups. Giftd Group: Elle Gray, Dominic Gray, LeShequa Logger, Cory and Sarah Anderson, Hanalei Burromurto, Ryan Gray, Kaleidoscope and Oscar Martin. And could the three Gray’s please come to my office. Off to class!” I was নৈশভোজ nervous as Dominic and I walked down the hall together. I walked into principle McLean’s office and it was basically one big room full of HIM! McLean this McLean that! “Um, Mr. McLean? Is there a reason আপনি wanted to see us?” Mr. McLean looked at us with a smile. “I understand আপনি are not all blood relations. Is this true?” I was startled but nodded. “Dominic and I are twins, but Ryan is a stepbrother.” I said. Mr. McLean seemed satisfied with that answer. “Ok, get to your classes!” He suddenly shouted. I went to class when I saw a redhead girl. I sat পরবর্তি to her, and she started talking at about 200 miles an hour. “Hi, I’m Kaleidoscope. E-scope! I like ponies do you? Lollipop!” Then she started laughing like a psychopath. “Ok then?” I said. I was trying not to laugh though. “Ok class, my name is Mr. Hopper. I will be your science teacher. Take out your বই and turn to page 15.” After that bore fest, it was time to go home.
I was at Dad’s house this week so I got in his truck. I got a note from the principle so I gave it to dad. “WHAT? “ He yelled. He made an illegal U-turn, and went to the school. On the way in he called someone. “He found us. Yes, Gwen, I am aware. Do আপনি want to come অথবা do this over the phone? Ok, well what do আপনি want me to do? Just get over here!” He hung up. I didn’t like the way he talked to my mom. “Dad, is something wrong?” I asked. “Evelyn Danni Gray, lets make one thing clear. আপনি and Dominic are not to come inside. Stay in the car!” My dad barked at me. I felt rage bubble up inside of me and I হারিয়ে গেছে it. “Shut up! আপনি aren’t my dad! Now tell the truth what is this about for crying out loud!” Dad and Dominic were both shocked. “Ok.” Dad said. “Well, your principle was a teacher at our high school. One day, I had gym and he mad me climb a 20 ft দেওয়াল with no mattress অথবা anything and he made high school the worst years ever for me and your mom. Happy now?” He said. I sat in silence. I guess that was the truth….. sort of.
