Bangel ended their relationship in season 3, and while there were references to them and random romantic scenes between them when Angel returned to Sunnydale in seasons 4, 5, and 7... I still continued to watch because it's my favorite show and Bangel is just ONE of the MANY things I love about Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Depends. For example, my two favorite couples are Spike/Buffy and Doctor/Rose. BTVS is over, but I watched BTVS for way more reasons then just Spike/Buffy. And for Doctor Who, Rose has left the show to be with her own Doctor. My ship is no longer on the screen, but I still watch and love the show.
