Why isn't Damon and Bonnie together in the series? Since they are together in the books.

They weren't together in the books. They kissed a few times, and were never canon.

No, they're not together in the books, but there is a strong mutual attraction, between the two. Yes, the প্রদর্শনী has taken the main aspects of the books, which gives a foundation to base it on, otherwise there would be no show, but I believe it is all heading in the same direction, even though the প্রদর্শনী has changed some things. So I think Bonnie and Damon will happen in time, but not anytime soon.
If the writers added in Bamon, lets say in season 2, I believe that they would think Damon's প্রণয় for Elena would seem untrue and they want people to believe. However, I don't mind the course that Bamon are on right now, even though it seems slow at times, because of lack of scenes, but we're able to see the stages of their growth. First, hate and now they are frenemies, based of respect and a mutual understanding. So, I can't wait to see what season 3 will bring, so they shouldn't be counted out.

Bamon has a connection that goes to the হৃদয় of who they are as individuals, book and tv show. In the books, it was Bonnie to open his soul and bring the true Damon forward. He did আরো for Bonnie, than he had ever done for anyone, because he loved and respected her.

Whether they follow this in the show, Bonnie has already shown Damon the same unfailing courage, honour, wisdom and compassion - and despite his words to Elena - he knows Bonnie to be true.

Give it time, they will forge a strong bond as in the books.
