Brightlight crouched in the reeds, her warm breath set up whirls of foggy air into the air as she waited. Shadows stretched out before her, lengthening as the দিন steadily darkened. She could feel her paws go numb from laying low in the shallow mud with her paws immersed in the chilled water. As soon as her mate would get here she would get out of the cold chilly pond water. Suppressing a shiver, her amber eyes continued to watch for any movements ahead of her. Not even a twitch of movement in the undergrowth. Fear clutched at her heart, war was coming upon her tomorrow. And if she didn’t get to see her mate Ratwhisker tonight, she didn’t when she’ll be able to see him again.
With quickening breath, she shifted, the cat tail clacked softly together. She promised she wouldn’t leave if he didn’t appear in the neck few moments. The Mistclan warrior tensed, but nothing happened. Letting out a heavy sigh of sadness, she turned away to leave.
“Spying?” a voice clucked in disapproval, but amusement was thick in his sly tone of voice. “I expected better of you.” A slim figure popped into view, his পশম sleek and wet, and his body trembled slightly as he stood, A slight autumn breeze ruffled his fur. On his face was a friendly smile, but it seemed very unused and beaten, thin face of the skinny looking tom. The gray tom approached, amber eyes glowing with warmth.
Brightlight whirled around, instantly recognizing the familiar face. “Ratwhisker,” she gasped in surprise. She had not at all expected him to actually come, the words she had rethought in her head all disappeared at the sight of her mate. Over and over she ব্যক্ত the words, but now her mind was blank like a smooth face of a large rock. All she could manage was to stumble and fall on the freezing ground.
The skinny, gray tom purred thickly, the sound muffled as he pressed his muzzle into her ginger spotted coat. A low meow formed in his throat, and burbled out into the cool air. “I’ve missed you. Though it’s only been a few days since we saw each other.” Ratwhisker’s voice was slightly husky, and it carried an edge to it with every word. But his words were true and sincere.
The Mistclan warrior touched her nose to his; worry flitted across her amber eyes. She could sense something was bothering the deputy. Her tufted ear twitched as her gaze intensified. “What’s wrong?” Brightlight asked calmly, pressing her flank against his. She could feel him shiver from his wet fur, and slowly she coaxed him under a ash বৃক্ষ where he could dry off.
“It’s nothing,” the Waterclan tom shook his head, as if that could convince everyone this was the truth. But the way his eyes moved, and couldn’t stop fidgeting ব্যক্ত otherwise. He glanced nervously at the Streamclan border, as if he expected a patrol to burst through the trees, which he knew was not going to come.
Brightlight’s stare was persistent and demanding, with an idea coming to mind her expression softened. Carefully, she coiled her slim body around his neck, purring in his ear, her whiskers brushing his face. Her face pressed into his neck fur, and she rubbed herself against him, smiling. “You have no need to hide things from me…. “She hummed “I just want to know?”
The warrior froze, his eyes locked অগ্রবর্তী as he fought for words. “Well, um, well, umm, I guess.” Her warm body felt so nice around his neck, like the soft পশম of a new born fawn. He couldn’t resist telling her everything, but something’s he had to keep secret. Ratwhisker nuzzled her, quivering with excitement. But he regained control of himself, and Brightlight curled lovingly পরবর্তি to him, a ভিক্টোরিয়াস expression on her face. “I guess the threat of Mistclan attacking us has been on edge.”
Brightlight frowned, her ears twitching. She rested her head lightly on his back; her breath ruffled his drying fur. “My clan is on edge as well, I think Willowstar’s ego has outrun her paws.” Her amber eyes rolled, while she tucked her paws beneath her white chest. She loved being curled up পরবর্তি to him, she felt নিরাপদ and welcome in the world. After a moment of quiet thought, her body twisted slightly as she felt a twinge of life inside of her.
