Chapter 13: Common Ground (Renesmee)
“What’s going on, exactly?” Kasie asked as I shut the door to Dad’s bedroom and she took a আসন on the bed. I hoped my father would at least attempt to keep his voice down while addressing our family.
I leaned up against the door looking down at the স্বর্ণ carpet.
“Nessie?” Michelle asked gently sitting beside her sister.
I sighed, taking a step forward. “If I’m going to explain you’ll need to keep an open mind. I don’t think I can handle anymore overreactions this evening.”
They looked at each other for a minute, silently, discussing whether অথবা not I should continue.
“Go ahead.” Kasie consented as they both turned to me.
I nodded, “Okay.” I moved অগ্রবর্তী and took a আসন in front of them at the foot of the bed, getting comfortable.
“What আপনি really need to understand is that my family is different from others. We are, unique, in that we have abilities far beyond those of a normal human being.”
They both stared at me patiently, their brows pulled together in concentration.
“My family is in fact comprised of—vampires.” I ব্যক্ত quickly, hoping they would not stop me before I could fully clarify. “But they have made a moral choice to abstain from drinking the blood of humans. Instead they live on animals, and strive to protect human life. The five others আপনি saw are cousins from Denali and have chosen to follow the same lifestyle.”
I was bemused দ্বারা their reactions so far. They did not move, nor attempt to halt my explanation. Nor did they runaway screaming which soothed me quite a bit.
“There are others. The kind of ভ্যাম্পায়ার আপনি hear about much আরো often, who drink the blood of humans. They travel the continents, fulfilling their thirst without a সেকেন্ড thought. Should they come anywhere near the borders my family has sworn to protect, however, they are turned away. That’s why my uncles went on the trip with us. A group of Nomad ভ্যাম্পায়ার was moving through the area we were camping in. They came to stop them from attacking you, অথবা Andrew.”
They remained still. Listening intently to what I had to say, no doubt discussing my words with each other.
“We are not the only protectors of this land, though. As hard as it will be to believe, there are in fact নেকড়ে-মানুষ living on the La Push reservation.”
Kasie tipped her head to the side, an interested smile threatening the corners of her lips.
“They aren’t your typical run of the mill, full moon types. They can phase at any point, as they please. My Aunt Leah, Uncle Seth, and—Jacob, as well as the other two আপনি may have noticed downstairs, Quil and Embry, are all members of this pack.”
I figured I’d spare them the details involving Sam’s pack. I figured ‘need to know’ was the best reason to hide such information and spoiling the secret of আরো বন্ধু would be crossing the line.
They turned to each other for a moment then with a nod looked back at me.
“And what are you?” Michelle asked.
It would figure they’d conclude I wasn’t human. I supposed I should have expected it. I took a deep breath, “I am half vampire, half human. I was born seven years পূর্বে this past September.”
“How is that possible?” Kasie asked, finally proving how flummoxed she really was.
“Because I am—a mixed breed, I aged quicker than a normal human. But, from now on I will remain this age for—eternity.”
Kasie’s jaw dropped; a mixture of shock and jealousy maybe?
“It works similarly for werewolves. Jacob hasn’t aged a দিন since he started phasing. Carlisle presumes it’s a side affect for all half-breeds. Well, অতিপ্রাকৃতিক half-breeds.”
“So wait—” Michelle interjected, holding up a hand. “You and Jacob are meant to be together because you’re both half-breeds? Half vampire, half human and half—”
“Wolf, half human? No. But it does have to do with Jacob being a werewolf. Long story short, it’s another side affect. For his kind.” I shrugged.
I was definitely amazed. After all I’d told them Michelle was আরো worried about why Jacob and I were meant to be. Of all the things to think about, they were worried about my relationship status. It was funny. I laughed.
“Awe man!” Kasie said, falling back in her আসন and putting her hands over her face.
“Information overload?” I asked meekly.
“No,” Michelle answered simply. “It actually explains a lot.”
“Really?”
“Well, yeah. Your family’s always been, like, taboo to everyone in town. No one really says anything out loud but আপনি can tell they’re thinking it. Knowing they’re ভ্যাম্পায়ার explains their cold skin, why they don’t eat, their lack of aging, their—”
“Complexions!” Kasie interjected, sitting back upright.
“—the reason they stay out of the sunlight.”
“Which is not because they will burst into flame that is a myth.” I made clear quickly before they could continue to assume such things. “They sparkle.”
“Really?” Kasie asked curiously.
I nodded.
“That’s not the point. The point is, we knew they were different, Renesmee. We were unsure as to what they were exactly but—well, we’re not blind are we?”
I shook my head.
“So, why are আপনি allowed to tell us all of this now?” Kasie asked, shaking her head in confusion.
“Yeah. Your Aunt told us you’d have to tell us some things that would be hard to গেলা and that they’d have to be kept secret, but she didn’t explain why.”
“You knew I was going to tell আপনি all this?”
“Kind of,” Michelle shrugged.
“Hmm. I wish I’d gotten that memo. I might not have been so nervous.”
Kasie giggled, “You did fine.”
“So, you’re not scared?”
“Not at all.” Michelle confirmed with a smile.
“For heaven’s sake, Renesmee. We already stayed the night with them. Why would we be suddenly terrified if nothing happened the last time?”
I shrugged, “I don’t know.”
“Besides, I’ve seen Carlisle at the hospital. He’s a great doctor and if a vampire can work with blood on a daily basis, I’m sure they can resist drinking it while it’s still inside of me.”
A knock sounded from the door.
“Come in,” The three of us ব্যক্ত in unison.
Alice stepped into the doorway cautiously, “Everything—okay?”
“Fantastic.” I replied with a nod. “How are things going downstairs?”
“Oh, আপনি know. Your father threw a fit then kicked Quil and Embry out. Then he told Garrett he should . . . Well, I’ll spare আপনি the gory details. All in all I think we’ve reached a consensus. He’s not too happy about it, of course, but he হারিয়ে গেছে fair and square.” She took a deep breath, “Now the men are all outside trying to create some kind of game plan.” The way her mouth twisted around the word ‘men’ was sarcastic and frustrated.
I smirked.
“But, I think the rest of us already have an idea how it will go.”
“You saw something?”
“Yeah, we’re all set. I can’t really see what the Volturi are planning, but I have a feeling our plan could be effective. It would help though if your father would stop changing his mind every thirty seconds. He’s giving me a headache.”
I laughed.
“I’m seriously considering making Jacob অথবা Seth take a nap on the পালঙ্ক so I can get a break. But anyway, I came up to tell আপনি all it was নিরাপদ to come down. আপনি probably should, Esme’s a little sad about the amount of খাবার left in the dining room.”
“Sounds great!” Kasie exclaimed, hopping off the বিছানা and starting down the hall.
“I’ll go supervise, make sure she doesn’t make too big a mess.” Michelle said, following at a jog.
“Thank you.” I ব্যক্ত once Alice and I were alone.
“For what?” She asked coyly.
“For setting them up for the worst.”
“Yeah, well, I knew what had to be done ahead of time didn’t I?”
“You’re such a cheater.”
“Yes well, not as much as আপনি are.”
My brows pulled together in confusion.
“I saw আপনি climb that cliff. আপনি almost gave us away right then and there.”
“Emmett told me not to do anything he wouldn’t do. Emmett would do that.”
She giggled, “True. আপনি can’t deny that logic.”
“Hey, Jake.” I called as he stepped onto the landing.
He entered the room, ignoring my greeting and looking to Alice. “Tanya and Carmen are asking for you.”
She sighed, lifting her eyebrows, “Duty calls. I’ll see আপনি downstairs?”
I nodded, “I’ll be down in a minute.”
She nodded again, smiling gently as she left the room.
Jacob leaned up against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest.
“Hey.” I ব্যক্ত stupidly. Just saying this single word was ridiculous but, there wasn’t much else I could think to say to him. “I thought আপনি would be outside with the, um, men.”
He didn’t reply, just stood there, staring at me.
I shifted myself to the edge of the bed, folding my hands in my lap, shaking my head, searching for some words of consoling, অথবা just, something to remove the look of near desperation that haunted his features. “Jake, I—”
Before I could really start he closed the মহাকাশ between us, his lips hungrily pressing into mine. I let my eyes fall closed, moving my hands to his back, his neck, to his hair. I felt his body rest upon mine, pushing me back until I was lying down, as I held him closer while his hands ran up my sides. His fingers ট্যাঙ্গেল্ড in my hair and I forced his lips into mine, স্নেহ চুম্বন him back fiercely.
He pulled back after the longest of moment in my life, looking into my flushed face, smiling gently. I stared wide eyed up at him while his fingers relaxed in my hair and moved to my cheek, brushing lightly over my skin.
“Well!” I finally ব্যক্ত after catching my breath.
He laughed, “Sorry.”
I smiled back at him, “Don’t apologize. Not for this.”
He nodded, “Okay.”
I pulled his face to mine again, স্নেহ চুম্বন him with a passion I never knew I possessed.
“Ahem,” a soft voice ব্যক্ত from the doorway.
I jumped, tossing Jacob to the floor as I pulled myself into a sitting position.
“Leah!” Jacob shouted as he rubbed the back of his head which had hit the end টেবিল during his fall.
She flushed and cleared her throat, obviously embarrassed about disrupting us.
“Oh, Jake, I’m sorry!” I said, rising from the বিছানা and pulling him to his feet.
“It’s all right,” He soothed. “I should have shut the door.”
I smirked, blushing intensely.
“Uh—” Leah began.
“Do আপনি need something?” Jacob snapped.
“Stop it.” I said, hitting his chest lightly. “Go ahead Leah.”
“Yeah . . . um, Edward wants us to patrol, make sure আপনি guys weren’t followed back. Oh, and he’d like আপনি to fill Sam in on everything that’s just been decided.” She nodded randomly, “I thought I’d let আপনি know.”
He stared at her, his eyes creased in irritation.
“Sorry to interrupt.” She finished, starting down the hallway.
He watched her exit, his face softening.
“Jake . . .” I urged, wanting him to apologize. The last thing we needed was tension between allies and he knew she hadn’t come up here to be impolite.
“Leah.” She stopped, turning back to the room. “Thank you. I’ll be there in a second.”
She nodded, half smiling, winking at me before starting down the stairs and out of sight.
“I guess I should go.” He said, putting a hand to my cheek.
I leaned into it, closing my eyes at the blissful tenderness of his touch.
“I’ll see আপনি later?”
“I hope so,” I replied, opening my eyes.
He smiled, nodding in agreement. With a সত্বর চুম্বন he moved quickly out of the room.
I smiled to myself.
Jacob and I had moved on and it was, honestly, the greatest thing I had ever thought would happen. It was a little sad that it took such dire circumstances to bring it about, but I was still pleased. The world was definitely a funny place, all the good floating along with the bad. Who knew what would happen next? No one. I guess that‘s the point. আপনি just have to take it all as it comes to you; good অথবা bad.
I took a আসন on the third stair from the bottom. I could hear Kasie and Michelle speaking enthusiastically with Kate and Esme in the dining room, asking them প্রশ্ন about being a vampire and how it changed their lives. I laughed to myself. They were enjoying their understanding আরো than I thought they would.
Just beside the front door, Carmen, Tanya, Alice and Rosalie stood huddled together, speaking in low whispers about vampiric law.
“Hi, Mom,” I ব্যক্ত blankly, still listening to their conversation as she took a আসন beside me.
“How are আপনি doing?” She asked, playing with my curls like she usually did when she was feeling anxious.
“Good.”
“Are আপনি feeling all right? আপনি look a bit flushed.”
My eyes widened a bit. I couldn’t really say: Yeah, Jacob and I were just making out. That would just be way too embarrassing, not to mention too much for her to handle right now. So I settled with, “Yeah, I feel great. Just, আপনি know, thinking—about stuff.”
She stared at me, her eyes squinting as she searched my words for a real explanation.
“What’s going on with you?”
Her expression relaxed, accepting my lie, “Not a whole lot. Everyone’s become kind of cliquey since we came to an agreement.”
“You couldn’t find a group আপনি liked?” I asked with a smirk.
She laughed, “No. I just needed a break.” She sighed gently, still twisting my hair around her fingers idly. After a few মিনিট her eyes shot up to the group দ্বারা the door.
“I don’t think so!” Mom exclaimed in a low voice.
“Bella, let’s be rational here.” Tanya replied at the same volume, tipping her head to the side.
“Rational? You’re talking about taking the lives of two high school girls just because they know about us. Is that rational? They’re not going to tell anyone. They’ve lived their lives with a secret of their own. A secret we now know about and they don’t seem to have any frustration over it. Nor are they planning to find a way to kill us. How about that? Is that rational?”
“We’re just saying that the law states—”
“The law means nothing.” She paused. “Well, it means something but I refuse to stand দ্বারা it if it means killing someone. I could never justify changing them simply because the Volturi can’t trust a living soul.”
“Do আপনি trust them?” Carmen asked quickly, calmly.
Mom turned to me, releasing my hair and standing, “Yes.” She took a step toward them, crossing her arms. “They’ve known about Renesmee’s gift for a মাস now and haven’t ব্যক্ত a word.”
“It’s true.” Alice validated. “I’ve been watching them. They’re actually quite intelligent and considerate. They took the information about our kind’s existence as an explanation of our family’s peculiarity, nothing more. We can trust them.”
“You are certain?” Tanya asked.
Alice looked to me.
I nodded, moving off of the staircase and approaching Tanya. I placed my hand to her cheek, flipping to the most significant conversations I’d had with my friends: First, the প্রদর্শিত হচ্ছে of my gift, then their reactions to the information about our family. I dropped my hand once the memories finished.
She nodded, “I see.” After a মিনিট she sighed, “All right. We will end this discussion for tonight. But if the time comes that—”
“If the time comes we’ll discuss it with them.” Mom ব্যক্ত bluntly. “We will prepare them for the change. We don’t need any newborns roaming around Forks, অথবা La Push for that matter, looking for a meal.”
Tanya looked to Carmen who nodded once in agreement.
“It is decided then.”
Mom nodded resolutely.
“Well then. I think I’ll have a chat with these—new friends—of ours.” Tanya looked over each of our faces before moving briskly into the dining room.
“What’s going on, exactly?” Kasie asked as I shut the door to Dad’s bedroom and she took a আসন on the bed. I hoped my father would at least attempt to keep his voice down while addressing our family.

As with the "new" Bella, there will be new changes to the story. Such as:
1.) Fanged vampires
2.) Burning in the sunlight
3.) Bella fighting back
4.) Taking bloody and daring turns
5.) A slightly darker and আরো grim version to the family
I'll write the first one soon. And I hope the ones who read it enjoy it. It's my first fanfiction, if আপনি would call it that, and I tried on the storyline. Really.
